Three Thai women have been arrested while attempting to cross back into Thailand from Poipet, Cambodia, carrying computers and mobile phones allegedly used in an illegal Chinese-run online gambling operation.

According to a Royal Thai Army report posted on 8 August, the arrests were made on 6 August at around 14:40 by the Burapha Task Force, Aranyaprathet Special Unit, 12th Ranger Regiment Control Unit, Border Surveillance Unit 11 and an intelligence operations team. The women were detained near the Thai–Cambodian border at Ban Nong Prue, Phan Suek Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District.

The suspects told authorities they had illegally crossed into Cambodia in early June to work for a Chinese employer running an online gambling site, earning 15,000 baht per month. They claimed the business had recently been shut down, prompting them to pay a Cambodian broker 6,000 baht each to guide them back to Thailand through an informal border crossing.

A search of their belongings revealed 10 computers and 18 mobile phones, which they admitted had been used in the gambling operation. They said they intended to sell the equipment in Thailand and share the proceeds. Authorities, however, expressed doubts about the full truth of their statements.

In a separate but nearby operation, officers also detained 13 Cambodian nationals and a guide. The group claimed they were traders from Rong Kluea Market who had returned to Cambodia but found themselves unemployed and were trying to re-enter Thailand to work.

All detainees were handed over to Khlong Nam Sai Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
