Satun province authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed two speedboats at Pak Bara Pier, La-ngu district, on the evening of 8 August, leaving one man critically injured.

The blaze broke out aboard the Andavaree speedboat, which was moored alongside another vessel, the Matsaya. Both boats were fully fuelled and ready for a morning departure, causing the flames to spread rapidly. Thick smoke and intense heat engulfed the pier as firefighters and emergency teams battled the blaze for more than two hours before bringing it under control, due to the limited access to the site.

During the incident, Mr Songwut, who was guarding the boats, suffered severe burns and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit on the Andavaree. The flames quickly spread to the adjacent Matsaya, destroying both vessels’ hulls and engines. Damage is estimated at around 10 million baht.

After the fire was extinguished, authorities towed the charred remains of the boats to the Lang-u Canal in Ban Tha Yang, Moo 5, to allow forensic teams to conduct a detailed investigation.

Pol Lt Col Sa-ard Langpute, Deputy Inspector of the Satun Tourist Police, confirmed that officers are collecting evidence to determine the exact cause of the fire.
