Air Canada Faces Complete Flight Shutdown Amid Strike:

Millions of Travelers Set to Be Stranded as Air Canada Faces Complete Flight Shutdown Amid Strike: How It Affects Passengers from United, Lufthansa, Singapore, Turkish, Emirates, and Other Airlines

Millions of travelers are set to be stranded as Air Canada braces for a complete flight shutdown due to an ongoing labor dispute with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing over 10,000 flight attendants.

The strike, set to begin early Saturday, will severely disrupt operations at Air Canada, grounding an estimated 700 daily flights—affecting nearly 4,900 flights over the course of a week and impacting over a million passengers.

This widespread disruption will not only leave Air Canada’s own passengers stranded but will also affect travelers flying with major international carriers like United, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates, due to the airline’s extensive codeshare partnerships and hub operations in major airports across Canada. With limited rebooking options and the peak summer travel season in full swing, the shutdown threatens to create a travel crisis felt globally.

I read somewhere today that they (AC flight attendants) were being offered a 25% increase in first year, and 38% total over 4 years. Their union said they are not being paid for the prep time and waiting at airports for their flights. I wonder though if other airlines pay that, then okay they deserve it. Do other airlines pay for that?

... Also AC pilots, while paid well by Canadian standards (apparently) make much less than their U.S. counterparts (but they are not part of this strike). So a bit of apples and oranges maybe, just in general for the airline sector, and can't be compared country to country.

U.S. professional salaries in most sectors are typically more than those in Canada.
