The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has taken over a high-profile case involving 805 tonnes of chemicals found at a private warehouse in Mae Kasa, Mae Sot district, Tak province. Authorities suspect the chemicals may be linked to drug production.

The seizure, valued at approximately 67 million baht, involved eight types of hazardous substances. The initial investigation by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Region 6, together with DSI, military, police and local administrative officials, began in December 2024. The chemicals were believed to be destined for neighbouring countries across the border at the Phu Nam Ron area.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Woranan Srilam, Director of the Consumer Protection Case Division and DSI spokesperson, the amount of chemicals far exceeds legal limits, which restrict possession to 50 tonnes. Additionally, the registered location of the chemicals did not match the actual warehouse. One suspect has been identified so far, with further investigations ongoing to determine other parties involved.

DSI will conduct a special investigation to trace the supply chain, examine potential links to drug trafficking and pursue legal action against all those responsible.
