A man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl has emphatically declared, "I am not a wild animal," as he fights the charges in court. Hadush Kebatu, originally from Ethiopia, faces accusations of telling the girl and her friend, "you would be a good wife," during encounters in Epping, Essex, on July 7 and 8.

 

His arrest triggered a series of anti-immigration protests and counter-demonstrations outside The Bell Hotel, where Mr. Kebatu was residing as an asylum seeker. He is charged with two sexual offenses— inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and harassment without violence, all of which he denies.

 

At Colchester Magistrates' Court, Mr. Kebatu, speaking from the witness box, stressed, "The girl could be my daughter; she is very young. I'm not a wild animal. These are children, the future of tomorrow." He expressed concern about the impact of the trial on his asylum claim and other migrants, reported the BBC.

 

Responding to claims of telling the girls he desired to have a baby with them, Mr. Kebatu firmly said, "never," stating his profession as a sports teacher in Ethiopia. A witness alleged that he heard the man claim to be from Africa and that he had paid £2,155 to reach the UK on a "rubber dinghy."

 

The trial heard how the asylum seeker allegedly approached the girls while they were eating pizza in the Epping Town Centre on July 7. A boy with the 14-year-olds claimed Mr. Kebatu focused his interest on the girls, allegedly telling them, "Come back to Africa; you would be a good wife."

 

The accusation escalated when it was claimed Mr. Kebatu met the girls again the next day, allegedly placing his hand on one girl's thigh and attempting to kiss her on a bench. She told police she felt "frozen" during the encounter and protested: "No, I'm 14," only to be told by Mr. Kebatu, "Age did not matter."

 

"I felt sick to my stomach. I didn't think a fully grown man would think it was OK to do that," the girl reportedly said during the trial’s first day.

 

In another twist, Mr. Kebatu's stated birth date of December 1986 conflicts with court records, putting his age at 41 rather than 38. The girls managed to escape the situation after a female bystander engaged Mr. Kebatu in conversation.

 

The woman testified on Wednesday, relaying feelings of "shock and discomfort" when Mr. Kebatu also placed his hand on her thigh. She promptly called the police when she saw him again with the 14-year-old girls, with her distressing 999 call being played in court.

 

Mr. Kebatu denies all charges, including two counts of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, and harassment without violence. The trial has been adjourned until September 4.

Maybe because so far there's not much to discuss and it's currently before the court.  Wait and see if he's found guilty or acquitted!

Anyone trying to have sex with a 14 year old  needs to be locked up, my 14 year old daughter was raped and killed, if I had my way the ones commiting the crimes would suffer a lot more than they do and have their lives totally ruined. The courts have gone soft on rape especially when commited by a refugee/illegal, this piece of crap needs to be deported before he does any more harm
