Bangkok, Thailand – Supakrit Boonkhant, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), inaugurated an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course today at Navamindradhiraj University in the Dusit District. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the city’s emergency response capabilities.

Organised by the BMA’s Fire and Rescue Department, the programme aims to equip officials with essential skills for emergency medical responses. By adhering to international standards, the course seeks to improve the efficiency of life-saving operations across Bangkok.

In his opening remarks, Boonkhant highlighted the ever-growing importance of robust emergency health systems amidst today’s unpredictable landscape. "Accidents, disasters, and sudden illnesses can occur without warning. Having skilled personnel is crucial for reducing fatalities and easing injuries," he stated.

The training course, running from 30 June to 22 July 2025, is designed as a comprehensive 15-day programme, excluding public holidays. It is held on a commuting basis at Navamindradhiraj University. Participants are set to gain critical knowledge, practical skills, and a heightened sense of responsibility, all aimed at applying their learning effectively in real-world scenarios.

Attendees include 40 BMA civil servants who work as disaster prevention and mitigation officers. The course is structured to develop their expertise, preparing them to manage unexpected incidents efficiently and mitigate potential impacts on the community.

By improving the skills of these personnel, the BMA hopes to strengthen its emergency health management system, seeking recognition from external agencies for meeting global standards.

Executives from the Fire and Rescue Department, alongside related officials, attended the inaugural event, underscoring the city’s commitment to ensuring that its emergency services are both effective and internationally competitive.

This training initiative underscores the city's proactive stance in addressing potential emergencies and enhancing public safety, ensuring that Bangkok remains well-prepared to handle a variety of critical situations.
