NATO has announced the launch of Operation Eastern Sentry, a new defense initiative to reinforce Europe’s eastern flank following a Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace earlier this week. Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed the move on Friday, calling Russia’s actions “dangerous and unacceptable” and warning that such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent.

The operation, set to begin in the coming days, will involve military assets from multiple NATO allies, including Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. According to NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, U.S. General Alexus Grynkewich, Eastern Sentry will be “flexible and agile,” focusing on strengthening air and ground defenses, enhancing intelligence sharing, and rapidly integrating allied capabilities.

Initial deployments include two Danish F-16 fighter jets and an anti-air warfare frigate, three French Rafale jets, and four German Eurofighters. These assets are expected to provide immediate reinforcement while the broader framework of the operation is developed.

Poland has reported that up to 21 Russian drones crossed into its airspace on Wednesday, with some debris scattered across hundreds of square miles. While Polish officials previously confirmed 19 separate airspace violations, not all drones have been accounted for, raising concerns that some may have re-entered Belarusian territory after crossing the border.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed suggestions that the strike was accidental, insisting Moscow acted deliberately. His government also closed all border crossings with Belarus on September 12 in response to joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises, “Zapad 2025,” escalating tensions in the region.

The launch of Eastern Sentry underscores NATO’s determination to counter Russian aggression and reassure eastern members that the alliance remains fully

committed to collective defense.

Key Takeaways:

  • NATO launches Operation Eastern Sentry to strengthen its eastern defenses.

  • Initial deployments include fighter jets and a frigate from Denmark, France, and Germany.

  • Poland reports 21 Russian drones breached its airspace, calling the incident deliberate.

Don't know why NATO is so worked up about this. I mean, Trump did say that the drone incursion was most likely a mistake, so since the stable genius tells no lies they should just let this one go!

The Russians are unsure how the drones  entered Polish territory and

have offered to send a delegation to help get to the bottom of the issue...don't know if the offer will be accepted though.
