Police in Phuket have arrested four British nationals, Mr. Hussain Meer, 26, British, Mr. Mir Wayne Carew, 25, British, Mr. Yanne Sarkawat, 25, British and Mr. Malique Kai Walters, 27, British, accused of ramming an American motorcyclist, before robbing him of a luxury watch worth 2.3 million baht. The suspects, believed to be part of an organised gang, were detained on 19 September 2025 and taken in for questioning. The victim, a 40-year-old American lawyer, confirmed he had no prior connection to the men.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of 19 September on Layan Soi 7 in Choeng Thale, Thalang district. The suspects allegedly pursued the victim, Ibrahim Iyun, in a car, deliberately collided with his motorcycle and then assaulted him. Two large men reportedly struck him once on the neck with a knife handle and threatened further harm unless he handed over his Audemars Piguet watch, after which they fled the scene.

Police later recovered three vehicles and the stolen watch. The suspects were apprehended at a villa in Choeng Thale and remain in custody for interrogation. Officers believe the group had planned the robbery carefully and may have been targeting wealthy foreigners.

The victim, a lawyer who lives in Switzerland and holds three passports, has been visiting Phuket for around ten days. He said he has travelled to Thailand, and particularly Phuket, more than 60 times without experiencing problems. On the day of the robbery, he had visited a café, local markets, a laundry and a convenience store before heading back towards his accommodation when the attack occurred.

He explained that it was raining at the time and his phone was stored in his motorcycle compartment, leaving him without navigation. Witnesses reported that at least three vehicles were involved in the chase, suggesting a coordinated operation. Locals came to his aid immediately after the incident and alerted police.

Following the arrests, the victim visited Cherng Talay Police Station and praised the officers. “I want to commend Phuket police for their professional and efficient work. They tracked down the criminals and made arrests within a day,” he said. “This incident doesn’t affect my confidence because I’m certain Thailand remains a safe country for tourists.”

Authorities are now working to determine whether the suspects are part of a wider network targeting tourists in Phuket. Investigators are reviewing the gang’s movements and potential links to similar incidents.

Nevertheless I don't recognise these as traditional Anglo-Saxon names: Hussain, Mir, Yanne and Malique.  Perhaps they are from Wales?

Yeah it doesn't make much sense for 4 guys in 3 vehicles to be involved for that low an amount. A talented ladyboy could have the watch off his wrist in less than a minute like they do with the gold chains.

Lucrative business based on the Corporate Fleet.

Well done the police and to the Thais who helped the victim.  As for potential punishment?  My views are too right wing for AN. 😜

Four men with British passports arrested in Phuket. There, that's better. I knew that they were going to be "New British" when I read the report yesterday. We're having big problems with them too in England.

I doubt 1 year is enough, alone ramming his bike could have resulted in the victims death so attempted murder could be one charge apart from robbery with violence and conspiracy to commit a crime, stupidity is an optional charge.
