'Jimmy Kimmel Live' to Return on Air After Charlie Kirk Comments

"Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is set to resume on ABC tonight after being pulled off air last week. A spokesperson from the Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, explained the suspension aimed to prevent further conflict during a tense national period. The decision followed conversations with Kimmel after comments he made about the MAGA movement and Charlie Kirk sparked backlash.

The temporary halt stirred debates on free speech, with Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr and affiliate networks exerting pressure on ABC. Protests erupted at Disney offices and the studio in Hollywood, opposing the company's decision to pull the show. In support of Kimmel, over 400 artists, including Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, signed an ACLU-led open letter advocating for Kimmel’s return.

Media analysts observed Disney CEO Bob Iger and Dana Walden managing pressures, highlighting Disney's need for government approval on deals such as ESPN’s NFL contract. With Kimmel's contract ending in May amid declining late-night viewership and revenue, the situation remains delicate.

Despite the suspension, Kimmel's influence in the entertainment industry as a respected figure continues.

Kimmel's absence affected his 200 to 250 employees, recalling the WGA strike of 2023 when he financially supported his crew. Kimmel has also used his platform for community aid, turning his backlot into a resource hub during recent Los Angeles wildfires. The return of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" marks a significant moment for viewers and the television landscape.

Key Takeaways

  • Jimmy Kimmel returns to air on Tuesday after suspension.
  • Disney halted the show due to sensitive comments.
  • Discussions led to a decision to continue the programme.

I think the (not so) stable (not so) genius is going to have a bad day. And re Kimmel's ratings tonight...well..."some people will be saying it's the highest rated late night show ever; nobody has ever seen anything like it". (Including clicks on YouTube tomorrow).

Scalpers are also going to make their year auctioning off Kimmel's free studio tickets.

BTW, with all the other news of the last 2 weeks, this went unnoticed:

A while back Trump spewed his usual insults at Rep Jasmine Crockett, using his racist "reserved for Black women" insult of "Low IQ". Crockett did not let that pass. She got official records of Trump's scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test when trying to get into Wharton (his dad's bribe eventually worked).

Guess where the "stable genius" (sic) scored.....

The 38th percentile, meaning 62% of test takers beat Trump. He's down there with truck drivers and others who should have set their sights on technical schools, not academic institutions. In general, perhaps universally, those who score in the 38th percentile are not accepted to Ivy League schools. 99th percentile, yes, 38%...community college.

Oh, and Trump always uses "Wharton", when that is the name of UPenn's graduate business school. Trump did not attend UPenn's grad school. That's just typical Trump fluff and hyperbole.

It's abundantly clear that without daddy---the guy who gave him a massive allowance, co-signed all his loans while he was failing until the arrival of Mark Burnett, and the $412,000,000 inheritance---Trump never would have been able to fool the goobers, get elected, and then grift off of his "public service".

There is no doubt that the strong pushback, threats of lawsuits, Disney stock hit, and massive cancellations of Disney subs caused this reversal.

Don't obey a bully. Fight back. Cave and it just emboldens them more.

It will be interesting to see the level of SELF CENSORSHIP that we'll see now from Kimmel and others.

There will certainly be some, probably a lot.

That's the sad part of this outcome.

Free speech has been damaged regardless when people are afraid.

I hear Jimmy is having a delicious TACO meal.

Not so sure. The other late night hosts did not self-censor after the Kimmel suspension, and Kimmel is no wimp.

He might make some comment about his comment (which pales in comparison to the Fox guy who suffered nothing for saying homeless---many of whom are veterans---should be euthanized), but I suspect he will come out swinging at Trump and Carr.

Ridicule is kryptonite to weak autocrat wannabes, so I kind of expect Kimmel to go nuclear.

It's their choice, just like the folks that suck up the vomit spewed by the convicted felon sitting behind the resolute desk. It's called protecting Free Speech. It's in the Constitution, you really should look it up.

That's all you've got?

Here's an interesting parlor game.....what's the estimated average IQ of Fox viewers vs the average IQ of Kimmel watchers?

I'd spot the Foxies 20 IQ points and still bet on Kimmel's audience.  Roger Ailes specifically created Fox to appeal to the low IQ demographic. It's in his Business Plan.

In the quarter leading up to this Disney lost 300mn dollars in sub money. So ya there's that.

Nice try though.

Deflection away from the reality of what was already a huge event happening at Disney.

Disney has been bleeding money for a long time. Turning out failure after failure.

Sooooo was this a stunt to create political turmoil and bump up ratings? He obviously knew that what he was saying was a blantant lie on public airwaves. BTW in three years there wasn't one non-liberal on his show. Is this bias and lack of balance in the public interest?

So you DO support fascism starting with the suppression of free speech. Got it.

And yes, I DO know what fascism is before you go running down the road with your hair on fire screaming "You don't know what fascism is!"

"Fascism is characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived interest of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy."

Now that there is one fabulous bit of confabulation lol 😂 you couldn’t possibly think the Disney corp would put its sielf through this debacle the stock losses the cancellations the deep burning anger over letting the first amendment down to boost ratings on a late night talk show…….now that’s some magical thinking 🤔.None of the conservative types have the courage to go on the late night shows because they will be exposed to facts and that  might bring down the rath of the felon.

Not so fast.

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced Monday that it would preempt ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" when it returns Tuesday night.

"Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,"

I'm not sure you have an adult's ability to comprehend. What did Kimmel say that was a lie? Point it out.

Was not the right going out of their way to make political hay out of the crime? Didn't righties immediately try to make sure nobody would even consider any possibility besides "left"?  That is all Kimmel said, and that was certainly less deserving of rebuke than the Fox clown who suggested homeless---many of whom are veterans---be euthanized.

In the meantime, you have a mendacious President who has lied outright for almost 5 years about a "stolen" election. The same guy lied about "declassifying with his mind" documents he also claimed the FBI planted. You have a guy in seeming cognitive decline---or else more lying---claiming he and his "genius" uncle discussed the Unabomber by name, and who has claimed he stopped the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and just over the last week in the UK claimed he stopped the war between Aberjaibidan and Albania (sic).

As for whether Kimmel has had non-liberals on the show, where does it say a private show---non news---must have balance in the public interest? Does Newsmax?  And they're supposedly a news network.

It's a shame he wasn't judged by his own standards in the end.

Just his monologues have 20,000,000+ subscribers on YouTube. In the industry, that's called a "blockbuster".

That you do not like or don't understand his humor is up to you. Nobody is tying you down to your sofa and making you watch it. I'm sure you can find the Kardashians or something more in line with your intellect.
