Poland Warns Russia: dont complain if your Jets in NATO Airspace get Shot Down

Poland has issued a stark warning to Russia after repeated incursions into NATO airspace, saying Moscow should not complain if its aircraft or missiles are shot down.

Speaking at an emergency session of the UN Security Council in New York, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told Russia bluntly: “If another missile or aircraft enters our space without permission… and gets shot down… don’t come here to whine about it. You have been warned.”

The warning follows a September 19 incident in which three Russian jets entered Estonian airspace for 12 minutes before being intercepted by Italian F-35s under NATO command. Earlier in the month, Russian drones also entered Poland and Romania, raising tensions across the alliance’s eastern flank.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reinforced Sikorski’s stance, declaring Warsaw will shoot down any unauthorized aircraft entering Polish skies without hesitation. “There is no room for debate here,” he said at a press conference.

Sikorski accused Russia of ignoring international law and pursuing “insane nationalism” that seeks domination over neighbors, stressing that “the age of empires is over.” His comments came as EU member states began talks on establishing a “drone wall” to bolster Europe’s defenses. Seven countries are expected to discuss the plan with the European Commission and Ukraine in an upcoming meeting.

The sharp rhetoric underscores growing NATO resolve in the face of Russian provocations, amid heightened concerns over Moscow’s ongoing war in Ukraine and spillover risks for neighboring allies.

Key Takeaways:

  • Poland warned Russia it will not hesitate to shoot down aircraft or missiles violating NATO airspace.

  • The warning follows multiple incursions, including Russian jets entering Estonian airspace on Sept. 19.

  • The EU is preparing a “drone wall” to strengthen defense along its eastern border.
