An Ethiopian asylum seeker, Hadush Kebatu, has been sentenced to one year in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman. Protests A disturbance erupted outside The Bell Hotel in Essex, where Kebatu was staying following his arrest in July. Office intends to deport him following his jail term.

Kebatu was found guilty of touching and attempting to kiss the schoolgirl in Epping, incidents that took place on 7 and 8 July. The arrest led to mass demonstrations as tensions flared over his residency as an asylum seeker at the hotel. His counsel, Molly Dyas, reiterated Kebatu's desire for deportation at the earliest opportunity.

The trial at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court revealed the traumatic experience endured by the young girl, described by Judge Christopher Williams as "disgusting and sickening." The girl shared her distress, saying she remains vigilant every time she is out with friends. Kebatu was convicted on charges including two sexual assaults, inciting sexual activity, and harassment.

Arriving in the UK via a small boat just eight days before the offences, Kebatu travelled through various countries, including Sudan and France. Under UK law, a foreign national sentenced to at least 12 months in prison must face deportation. The law aims to handle cases involving serious offences by foreign nationals.

The court condemned Kebatu's actions, with testimony revealing he attempted to justify his behaviour by professing ignorance of British laws. During the trial, he claimed cultural misunderstandings, but the judge dismissed these as unfounded excuses. His actions sparked substantial unrest, contributing to "mass demonstrations," and he reportedly acknowledged this during the proceedings.

Witnesses provided chilling accounts, including encounters where Kebatu invited the young girl and her friend to The Bell Hotel, making inappropriate remarks. The trial uncovered further discomforting details of Kebatu's intentions, as described by child witnesses and the victims themselves. A woman who attempted to assist Kebatu with his CV also became a victim of his unwanted advances.

Essex Police's Assistant Chief Constable, Stuart Hooper, praised the victims for their bravery and assured them of the force's support. He highlighted the importance of their testimonies in securing the conviction.

Let's hope he doesn't change his mind about leaving.

Because if he wants to stay, citing human rights issues due to Ethiopia's disdain for Paedophiles, he'll be going nowhere once the lefty lawyers and judges start wringing their hands.

Out of interest, was this one a brain surgeon or an engineer?

12 month sentence and probably out in 6. Of course he will be changing his mind.

Especially when there are idiotic Judges like this, deeply embedded in the Judiciary.

The Home Office has accused a High Court judge of causing “real damage to the public interest” by blocking an Eritrean migrant’s deportation to France.
Mr Justice Sheldon halted the man’s removal last week, just 14 hours before the flight in the first challenge against a deportation under the government’s “one in, one out” scheme.

He is incredibly weak. And dishonest.

Of course he used to be a human rights lawyer so he got rich defending people like the scumbag Paedo in the OP.

He is also pro mass immigration. It helps to destroy the country he hates.

He will be thanking Allah profusely, for giving him the wisdom to refrain from posting hurty words on the internet.

There must be a joke in there somewhere. Damned if I can see it, or get it.

So this pervert was found guilty of 4 sexual assault offenses and related harassment offense.

He was sentenced to 12 months, maximum for a magistrates court.

Lucy Connolly wrote a tweet, nobody was actually hurt or assaulted and she got 31 months!

Seems like another 2 tier decision here!    Is anyone shocked???

Build more prisons. And find better judges.  UK, you are losing you Country

Wrong!  It's already lost.  At least for the next four years.

I wonder how long it will take him after his deportation to sneak back in again.
