October 1, 2025Oct 1 In the schematic drawing of my 3 phase monitoring device It shows 3 off 500mA fast fuses. They are not in the load cct. but I suppose they are needed for when PEA decides to fix a power fault and on re-connection leaves the neutral off. Happened once. Me thinks ....are the fuses meant to be added by me or are they inbuilt? I took the cover of the unit off to check and all I can see are what looks to me black miniature components near the voltage input that I think my be capacitors not fuses. Sooo I think I should install 3 inline 500mA fuses just incase. It's a pain in the bum but what's the electrical forum opinion?
October 1, 2025Oct 1 They are for you to add. Make sure you get holders that don't allow you to touch anything. I've got some DIN holders that take 20mm fuses, sadly I can't find the beasts online. EDIT Not the exact unit we have, but you get the idea. https://th.aliexpress.com/item/1005008883379770.html? "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
October 1, 2025Oct 1 Author Thank you. One more question please: Can I run my 3 lots of CT wires in the same conduit as I run power to the units gateway. Will there be interference?
October 1, 2025Oct 1 I would keep them separate but if the runs are short there should be no issue. Use twisted pairs (CAT 5 UTP) for best immunity. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
October 21, 2025Oct 21 Author Everything installed and working since today. Brushed up on my transformer theory and eventually changed my current scaling factor to 24 which matched my 120/5 CTs. The included destructions with the power meter aren't great and ChatGPT was incorrect about setting up my CT refering to Ip and Is where as these are not in the selectable menu only Ct. Set it to 24, all good.
