Mediators have reported that a key figure within Hamas's military wing, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, has rejected a new ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. The plan, aimed at ending current hostilities, has been accepted by Israel but remains a point of contention for Hamas. Al-Haddad believes the plan threatens the group's existence and is firm in his decision to continue fighting.

The plan, featuring a 20-point framework, demands that Hamas disarm and take no future role in governing Gaza. While some political leaders from Hamas in Qatar are reportedly open to negotiated adjustments, they lack influence due to the control of hostages by the group's military wing. There are 48 hostages believed to be held, with only 20 presumed alive, posing a significant challenge to any negotiations.

Hamas leaders express concerns over the plan's requirement to release all hostages within the first 72 hours of a ceasefire, fearing a loss of leverage. Despite assurances from Trump that Israel would honour the agreement, distrust persists after Israel's assassination attempt on Hamas leadership in Doha last month. Furthermore, some within Hamas perceive the proposed deployment of an "International Stabilisation Force" in Gaza as another form of occupation.

The US framework also outlines a phased Israeli troop withdrawal from Gaza, introducing a "security buffer zone" along Gaza's borders with Egypt and Israel, a potential issue if Israeli involvement continues. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent statements indicate resistance to parts of the plan, insisting on maintaining military presence in Gaza and rejecting Palestinian statehood, complicating the peace process.

This situation follows intense conflict triggered by a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, resulting in significant casualties and hostages. This has led to a severe military retaliation from Israel, with tens of thousands reported dead in Gaza, according to its health ministry.

Key Takeaways:

  • Hamas military leader rejects Trump's ceasefire plan, citing existential threats.
  • The plan demands Hamas's disarmament and relinquishment of governance in Gaza.
  • Distrust over plan terms, especially concerning hostage release and troop withdrawals.

Hamas do not want peace. It really is as simple as that. Any peace settlement with Israel threatens their very existance.

They started the present round two years ago. They intend to fight to the end. They would rather survive as the lords of rubble rather than allow Gaza and Gazans to live.

They are motivated by an implaccable hatred of Israel and the Jewish people, and a desire to destroy the country and slaughter its people. They started with a functioning de facto state, albeit one built on and controlled by terror. One that flouted the norms of modern civilisation, it's schools, hospitals and just about every institution doubling as  functioning as bases for terror, planned, built and controlled with that in mind. That has been reduced to ruins; but they dont really care about that. If they (Hamas) survive, and remain in charge whilst Gaza is rebuilt (by others) they will sooner or later resume attempts to destroy Israel and kill Israelis, and subvert the entire rebuilding and renewal of society to supporting those aims. The savagery of what they did on October 7th 2023 showed the world exactly what they were prepared to do; they have repeatedly proclaimed their intention to continue doing so until Israel is destroyed and it's people slaughtered.

I have little time or respect for Nethannayu or his government, it seems that (although they elected it) so do an increasing number of Israelis. But what choice does Israel or the Israeli (Jewish) people have - if they were to replace their current government with the most liberal and peace seeking of governments, the attacks will continue.

They tried, as a people, being supine and accepting what was done to them in the past, in (just) living memory. That resulted in millions, millions, of deaths in the industrial extermination of Europes' Jews, and of course led to the establishment of Israel.

Now a concerted effort remains to finish that; in effect, to kill the rest of them. What choice has Israel got? There are two sides, and one side is dedicated and driven by the intention to utterly destroy the other, no mercy, no quarter; the world saw that on October 7th 2023.

So be it.  Here comes Trump Gaza.

The article only states that he "rejected" the plan. I understand why he did, but I would have preferred that he had taken the plan, made the necessary changes, and then presented a modified plan as an acceptance with the changes.

Let trump build a few casinos there. Everyone will win.

There goes another Nobel Peace Prize. Poor TACO.

If TACO builds casinos in Gaza they will benifit no one as only TACO can bankrupt casinos.

No one trust a word from Taco Trump in trade and foreign policies. As for Netanyahu, he is a war criminal that can’t be trusted even in his own country.

Of course.

Al-Haddad's goal is not peace.

His goal is to eliminate the Jewish people and take their land.

How JohnnyF? Hamas fighters 25k, half killed by IDF. Israel has about 170k active soldiers and close to 500 k reservists. They also be known to have operational nuclear weapons and about 80-400 nuclear warheads. Please illuminate us with your intelligence.

What point are you trying to make Erihc Lohh?

Israel is stronger therefore Hamas are morally justified in wanting to eradicate their people and take their land?

Good, so we have the green light to finish the job? We might celebrate new year in a liberated Gaza.

Trump is not building casinos in Gaza, nor has he said he would.

To date, the only international western leader who has made a real effort to end the war is  trump. The UAE, Egypt and KSA have worked tirelessly to get a peace deal. Everyone else just offers empty words and gestures.

Your assessment ignores the fact that Gaza was launching dozens of rockets and missiles at Israel before Gaza attacked Israel. it also sent multiple militants through tunnels to attack Israel. Hamas does not need  a big army to carry out its objective of continuous war.

In respect to  the nuclear weapons, are you asking that israel use them against Gaza, because that's what your argument offers.

The OP talk about elimination of the Jewish people and take their land by Hamas I asked how will Hamas with a tiny fraction of Israel military able to do that.  You thinks rockets and missiles can eliminate the Jewish people and take their land? I hope those extreme right politicians in Israel will not use the nuclear weapons. Who knows but that is a big deterrent factor against any country not less the tiny Hamas fighters.

Of course I agree with you and understand what you are saying as I'm a westerner too, but that's not in their psyche or culture.  Belief that there area few virgins waiting for them on the other side for example, and not wanting to go now so they can kill more Jews before they have to go visit those virgins.

Seems easy: Accept the terms or die.

The only leverage Hamas has are its western jew hating socialist supporters in the West.  And neither we, nor Israel, care anymore. Time to fry bigger fish.

I feel sorry for all the Innocent men woman and children killed by Airstrikes but the blame lies with Hamas. They do not care about the people in Gaza instead they launch Rockets in heavily populated areas, Schools, hospitals etc, if there questioned by the locals there threatened or killed by Hamas. Food convoys are seized before the locals get it first. All the remaining hostages will sadly be killed as they will be no use to them. Even if Billions are spent levelling Gaza and bringing it into the 21st Century Hamas will use them to fire Rockets into Israel. So Hamas must be eradicated for good.

If Hamas don't accept Tony Blair's Trumps peace plan, then I would like to see Qatar liaise with Israel and deport the Hamas leaders to Gaza.  They can negotiate from there.

Israel has been taking heavy casualties in Gaza because it is trying to minimize collateral damage. Instead of leveling areas as Assad did in Syria, Israel sends in small groups of  soldiers. This saves non combatant lives but gives Hamas an advantage and allows the use of  its limited number of personal more effectively.

Your attempt to portray Hamas as "tiny" and insignificant is just another  of your excuses for Hamas.  it is a violent group that will not allow dissent in Gaza and that is pledge to the death of all jews and the destruction of Israel.
