Trump Declares "Nightmare Over" in Historic Knesset Address

US President Donald Trump has declared "the long and painful nightmare is finally over" in an address to Israel's parliament following a brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. In a historic speech, Trump highlighted the release of the final 20 hostages from Gaza and described the moment as pivotal for Middle Eastern peace. He spoke amidst cheers and chants, reflecting on the challenges he'd overcome to reach this agreement.

This marks the first US presidential address to the Knesset since 2008, coinciding with Israel's release of 250 Palestinian prisoners. Trump, on a diplomatic tour, also attended a peace summit in Egypt to launch the second negotiation phase. The American president likened the event to past landmark deals in the Middle East, expressing hope for a "new dawn."

In a candid revelation, Trump shared insights into his talks with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, advocating for the conclusion of military actions in Gaza. Netanyahu recognised Trump's efforts in brokering the ceasefire and deemed him Israel's greatest friend in the White House. Amid cheers, Trump expressed his intention to focus next on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The ceasefire is the first step in a 20-point peace plan, and Trump is confident it will endure. His administration is preparing to establish a "board of peace" to manage the area. Notable US officials attended the Knesset address, with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump receiving particular applause for their roles in the proceedings.

Key figures, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were present, underscoring US commitment to the initiative. Meanwhile, the presence of dissenters outside the assembly reflected the divisive nature of the peace process. Trump's influence in the region has been monumental, but some Israeli MPs, desiring continued conflict, opted out of attending the address.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump declares an end to Gaza hostilities in historic Knesset address.
  • Release of prisoners and hostages marks a new phase of peace talks.
  • Focus shifts to establishing a peace board and tackling global conflicts.

From transcript of Knesset speech:

A year ago, the United States of America was a dead country. Now it's the hottest country anywhere in the world. It is the hottest. There's no question about it.

(48:54)
In fact, if you go back a year ago before the election, although once we had November 5th, we became hot because people got it. I would say November 5th was a time that we became really hot. But once you go back a couple of years, if I were in charge and the country was doing what… Nobody was going to ask me to speak. Nobody asked Joe Biden to come up and speak, I guarantee you that. And if they did, he would've turned them down. I promise you. He didn't speak and he didn't speak well.

(49:22)
But all of the countries in the Middle East could have, what we're doing now, it could have happened a long time ago, but it was strangled and set back, almost irretrievably by the administrations of Barack Obama and then Joe Biden. There was a hatred toward Israel. There was an absolute hatred. The setbacks really started when President Obama signed the Iran nuclear deal. This was a disaster for Israel, and it was a disaster for everyone. And I remember that Bibi Netanyahu came to the United States and worked so hard to try and get Obama not to do that deal.

The rain stopped — or are these forecasted temperature zero snowflakes of winter?
At 32 degrees, it feels like a welcome cold metric in a hot climate.
— Frank Burns could have said that.

The nightmare is not over, Trump is still President of the USA and not in prison.

The nightmare continues.

BTW great speech with 9 count 'em Incredibles.

e.g. . It's an incredible triumph for Israel and the world to have all of these nations working together as partners in peace

Wonder how long the speech lasted and how mny Knesset members fell asleep. Trump was not well-shielded for a change.

Waddya bet Trump invites 'Yahu to speak before Congress, avoiding landing in any country party to the ICC, of course.
