Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team plans to appeal his recent conviction and over four-year prison sentence. This decision follows the filing of a notice on Monday in the Federal District Court of New York. Combs was found guilty of two counts related to prostitution after an intensive eight-week trial in July.

The jury, however, acquitted him of more severe charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking. Although the appeal's basis wasn't detailed in Monday's filing, Combs' attorneys argue that the statute under which he was convicted is misapplied. Alexandra Shapiro, Combs' lawyer, submitted the appeal notice following the trial's conclusion.

Combs received a 50-month prison sentence but will have time served credited for the year he spent in custody at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. During his sentencing, Combs expressed deep remorse, tearfully stating, "I've been humbled and broken to my core." His trial featured testimony from 34 prosecution witnesses.

Federal prosecutors initially sought a minimum 11-year sentence, which contrasted sharply with the 14-month sentence Combs' defence team requested. Combs wrote to the judge, expressing regret for his past actions, acknowledging that mere apologies aren't sufficient to mend past harms.

The jury acquitted Combs of the most serious allegations in July, leading to an emotional reaction from him as he thanked the jurors and shared a heartfelt moment with his family. Combs continues to serve his sentence at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

That's a dangerous game to play because this could severely backfire and result in an increase of jail time. Also, appealing a comparatively light sentence doesn't sound "humbled to the core" at all!
