Big C promotions

Back on topic, I'll use the oil for marinades, to save using my stock of Extra Virgin olive oil, as that solidifies in the fridge anyway.

Personally, I think 308 baht for part refined and part virgin olive oil was too much. I haven't used Ghee in my dishes prior to this, as I only prepare Indian food occasionally. Obtaining it as a reasonable price makes more sense.

All will be fine provided that you restrict yourself to polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Please always select fats with two or more carbon-carbon double bonds.

Thank you.

Your post appears to be nonsense...again.

Are you suggesting that I avoid the monounsaturated fat in EVOO?

I am suggesting that polyunsaturated fats consumption carries less risk and greater benefit for health.

Probably not a good idea to cook with EVOO.

That isn't what you wrote initially and I don't agree with it anyway. But, thanks.

Gee. The science has not changed during the past 24 hours.

My reading of the sciences has not changed, either.

I am still correct in what I stated and what I now state.

Also, please stop eating any partially hydrogenated oils, even though they are to be found in many modern manufactured foods.

I am clarifying for you that monounsaturated fats have one carbon-carbon double bond.

I am saying that the double bond in the carbon chain of monounsaturated fats causes these molecules to be bent.

So, I am saying, for hearth health, then....GET KINKY....

This is essentially what I am saying.

Kinky is good....!!!!

Stop cluttering up the thread with your nonsense.

I mentioned Olive oil, specifically EVOO and the monounsaturated fatty acid within. You have not addressed the fact that you suggested that one should utilise only polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Please do so or please go away. This thread is for posting Big C promos and sales.

My problem with these promotions of reputable and reliable Extra-Virgin Olive Oil is that there are only very minor discounts, and the product is overpriced to begin with.

Also, When on promotion, then often limited quantity or out of stock.

image.png

What use are they promotions...anyway?

I can get the same offer at Macro PRO even when not on promotion.

The price is still BT.780.

I wish these companies would not use the word promotion until they REALLY have something useful to crow about.

IF Big-C had a REAL promotion of HIGH-GRADE Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, then I would buy it.

But, do they?

Will they in the future?

This is why I often question the usefulness of these so-called promotions.

Am I wrong?

The prices posted here are often for particular stores/locations. Note that you are posting in the Pattaya section...

The nonsense was that he asserted that one should only choose Polyunsaturated fats when I wrote about olive oil. When I asked about monounsaturated fatty acids in olive oil, he just began to post nonsense.

It's all okay, no big deal.

I agree.

No big deal.

However, here is the justification for stating what I previously stated:

Also, this same comparison between monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats, relating to their risks and benefits, is available in reputable textbooks.

There are graphs that show this comparison.

I can search a few textbooks and post the images of the pages and graphs here, if you like....

Ups to you....

Meanwhile, here is the data in the graph from the textbook:

No, not Nec-e-CELERY

peanuts are not healthy .

some nuts have a poor shelf life. if they've been sitting on the shelf for months, the fats may be rancid.

watch out for brazil nuts -- you can overdose on selenium

I wouldnt touch corn oil, sunflower oil, canola ...

fatty fish yes.

EVOO good, but need to make sure the brand is pure EVOO as they can be mixed with other oils like canola. And EVOO does not have a high smoke point, so not suitable for cooking.

Egg yolks are a mix of poly, mono, and saturated.

Also, cheese. Mostly saturated fat, but within a "food matrix" including protein, calcium, so has different effect on the body than pure fat.

The smoke point of extra virgin olive oil ranges from 350°F to 410°F (177°C to 210°C). High-quality, fresh oils with lower free fatty acid content usually sit at the higher end of this scale, making it safe for most everyday home cooking like roasting, sautéing, and pan-frying.

  • Antioxidants help: Extra virgin olive oil is rich in polyphenols and monounsaturated fats. These natural compounds protect the oil from breaking down quickly under heat.

  • Better than high smoke points: Studies show extra virgin olive oil resists degradation and forms fewer harmful compounds when heated than many refined oils with higher smoke point numbers.

  • Cooking uses: It works well for normal stovetop cooking and baking. Avoid using it for prolonged, high-heat commercial deep-frying

No they are not. It’s a bean, legume, fabaceae, in other words it gives the human body gas.

That's what I had thought.

However, I then thought that someone here on TV had re-classified them for purposes of discussion on this forum.

If it were a true nut then it would be named as a nut pea, or nutpea as per species.

Am in TOPS Central at the moment. They have Westgold butter 250 grams on a BOGOF basis at 159 baht and La Masia Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500ml and 1 litre, similarly, at 419 baht(2 x 500ml) and 789 baht(2 x 1 lt) respectively.

The butter instore only.

EVOO 500ml in-store and online. @GammaGlobulin 1 litre bottles seemingly in-store only.

They also have La Masia Extra Virgin Olive Oil 250 ml bottles for 99 baht. https://www.tops.co.th/en/la-masia-extra-virgin-olive-oil-250ml-8432580001283

HP Sauce 450g at £1.99 is a pretty good price, cheaper than expat shops

You probably mean Westgold butter. Unfortunately it's not very good I found, it's from New Zealand. Try the French Elle & Vivre in Big C if you want good butter. Much better.

Fixed.

Ironic that you picked up on me writing Westgate initially, as now I can return the favour. It's Elle & Vire 😊

I don't remember having any obvious issue with Westgold Unsalted when I tried it. Other members seem to like it, so likely you're in the minority.

Currently I have British butters and Lurpak.

I, luckily, found CARBONELL EVOO ONE LITER at MAKRO promotion for Bt.388 per bottle.

Great deal.

I prefer this brand from Spain, anyway.

It has a definite BITE to it.

The greater the bite, the more I like.

image.png

I also prefer products from Spain....vs Italy.

So, I bought 10 liters.

Good deal, and a reasonable price, for a change.

La Masia is also Spanish, though at 388 baht, you are sorted anyway 👍

Ahh for the good old days of soc.culture.thai

https://globalfreedomofexpression.columbia.edu/cases/godfrey-v-demon-internet-limited/

The High Court of England and Wales concluded that a UK-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) did not have a viable defense against a defamation action. Laurence Godfrey, a British lecturer alleged that an unknown Internet user created an obscene and defamatory posting and fraudulently attributed its authorship to him. The statement was posted on an online public forum operated by Demon Internet Limited, a UK-based ISP, which did not remove the posting for more than 20 days until its expiration date in the public forum. Subsequently, Godfrey brought a libel action against the ISP, seeking damages for the alleged defamatory statement. The High Court concluded that the ISP knew or had reason to know that the impugned statement was defamatory since the plaintiff had notified the company that he was not the true author of the statement. Yet, the Defendants chose not to remove the defamatory posting. Accordingly, the Court ruled that the company did not have a viable defense under Section 1 of the Defamation Act.

But assuming that "Laurence Godfrey" was his real name it was hardly an anonymous person that was libelled

1 minute ago, Bday Prang said:

I think he called himself 'lord Godfrey' on the newsgroup he is a real person but

I believe anonymous on the internet, until he took the ISP to court.

The person 'libelling' him was also anonymous ,a supposed Thai person who liked to troll

Godfrey...it was quite amusing at times.

ISP Demon Internet who hosted a news group server carrying the newsgroup soc.culture.thai were the trolling took place was reluctant to remove the posts as it would set a censorship precedent...also they were only one of many worldwide servers carrying Usenet groups and soc.culture.thai...I suppose the ultimate argument was that they were just the postman not the person who wrote the naughty letter...rather disappointingly Godfrey won and the censorship ramped up another notch.
