Chinese President Xi Jinping has conveyed his condolences over the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, highlighting her pivotal role in strengthening China–Thailand relations. In a message sent on October 26 to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, President Xi expressed the sorrow felt by the Chinese government and people. He praised Queen Sirikit for her dedication to fostering bilateral ties, recalling her significant visit to China as a symbol of goodwill.

President Xi emphasized how Her Majesty’s efforts have cemented ties between the two nations, often described as “close as one family.” He concluded by noting the deep respect and affection the Chinese people hold for Queen Sirikit. This gesture underscores the longstanding diplomatic relationship and mutual respect between China and Thailand.

In related news, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed the Department of Internal Trade to monitor the sale of black mourning attire across Thailand. This move is aimed at preventing price gouging during the national mourning period. Deputy Government spokesperson Airin Phanrit reported increased demand for mourning clothes, prompting efforts to ensure affordability for all citizens.

Prime Minister Anutin commended vendors who have kept prices fair or offered discounts to help ease financial burdens on the public. Authorities have warned that retailers overcharging or failing to display price tags could face penalties under the Price of Goods and Services Act. Possible consequences include fines up to 140,000 baht, imprisonment for up to seven years, or both.

Additionally, eligible citizens are encouraged to utilize the Khon La Khrueng Plus co-payment scheme to purchase mourning attire from participating vendors. This initiative aims to support citizens during the mourning period while reinforcing fair trade practices.
