Ten on Trial in Paris for Sexist Cyberbullying of Brigitte Macro

Ten individuals accused of engaging in sexist cyberbullying against Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, are set to face trial in Paris this week. Accusations include spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, as well as making derogatory remarks about the 24-year age difference between her and her husband. If convicted, the defendants face up to two years in prison.

Among those on trial are a public official, a gallery owner, and a teacher, according to local reports. Two defendants, Natacha Rey and Amandine Roy, known for their theories, were previously convicted of slander for claiming Brigitte Macron was a transgender woman. While initially found guilty, they were later acquitted by a court of appeals, although Mrs Macron is appealing the decision.

The rumours, which started in 2017 following her husband's election, have been amplified by US right-wing influencer Candace Owens. The Macrons have filed a lawsuit against Owens for perpetuating these stories, which they claim lack credible evidence and were pushed by known conspiracy theorists. The French President has stated that the lawsuit aims to protect their reputation and counter false narratives spread by far-right figures.

Brigitte Macron met Emmanuel Macron while teaching at his secondary school, and they married in 2007. Their relationship, often scrutinised due to their age gap, has been used as fodder by their detractors. Despite the negativity, Mrs Macron finds the allegations deeply distressing and sees them as a barrier to her husband's political efforts.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ten individuals are on trial in Paris for cyberbullying Brigitte Macron.
  • Defendants could face up to two years in prison if found guilty.
  • Rumours started in 2017 and have been spread by US influencer Candace Owens.

Whilst I have no doubt that Brigitte is indeed a woman, I don't understand why she doesn't produce the evidence immediately and put these silly rumours to bed.

The accusations must seem like a real slap in the face.

All seems petty to me .... he is the French President, can't figure out why he thinks these prosecutions work to his advantage - isn't if beneath his dignity?

I'm old enough to remember all the slander that followed Obama and his wife, alleging he's gay and she's a tranny which was met with a mere shrug.

There is a justice system in France. Let it work.

If the Macrons can't stand the heat, then step away from the fire.  Posh elitists can't handle chatter from the peasants.  Pathetic.

The Macron's and the Obama's are public figures.  The public banter comes with the territory.  Lampoon and acerbic satire aimed at "leaders" and the powerful is age-old. However, the "leaders" and the powerful thin-skin is on display when they use their power to go after the commoners for poking fun at them.  Yeah - it petty.
What the Macron's are doing is leveraging the power of the French presidency to go after the "peasantry" who are making fun of them.  Like you said, the Obama's shrugged it off as they should (more power to them for handling the accusations gracefully), and it is exactly what the Macron's should do.  But instead?  They use the legal system to bash their detractors.  In the meanwhile they are attempting to file a civil suit against US podcaster Candace Owens seeing that, unlike France, a criminal defamation case would go nowhere when the plaintiffs are public figures.  All the Macron's are going to get in the US is public disdain, as they should.  As I said, if they can't stand the heat, step away from the fire.

A DNA test would be definitive and take but a few days.  She's either XX or XY.  Instead, they're going through all kinds of gyrations to come up with photos of her from years ago for the Candace Owens lawsuit.

Something ain't right.

Edit: It would be interesting to see if there are security personnel following her around to make sure she doesn't leave behind a used napkin, coffee cup or any other potential DNA sample.

Why doesn’t she just take it on the chin like a man? Sorry. 🤭
