Cambodia’s APSARA National Authority (ANA) has launched a series of new sightseeing routes across the Angkor Archaeological Park, offering tourists fresh ways to explore the ancient temples and their surroundings.

The initiative, announced Monday, introduces three categories of routes—short-term tourist trails, medium-term religious circuits, and long-term historical journeys—designed to suit varying interests and timeframes. Key temples such as Ta Prohm and Neak Poan now feature multiple touring options, including walking paths and boat rides that provide panoramic views and alternative perspectives.

At Ta Prohm, visitors can enter via either the east or west gate, while Neak Poan offers outdoor, indoor, and boat tours. Additional routes have been developed at Banteay Srei, Chao Say Tevoda, Thammanan, and Phnom Krom, each enhanced with historical information boards, sculpture explanations, and scenic photo points.

“These new routes help tourists understand the temples more deeply and appreciate their cultural and historical significance,” said ANA spokesman Long Kosal. “They also make it easier to navigate interconnected sites and grasp the stories behind the carvings.”

The Phnom Krom route, in particular, offers sweeping views of Tonle Sap Lake, rice fields, and sunset vistas, alongside glimpses into local life through fishing and traditional crafts.

ANA plans to expand the initiative further, aiming to equip every temple with clearly marked paths, signage, and visitor facilities such as parking and restrooms. The move is part of broader efforts to enrich the Angkor experience and reinforce its global appeal as a heritage destination.

Very much so. As a Siem Reap resident I often take a relaxed ride around the Angor Archaeological Park to view and enjoy recent renovations and other landscape improvements.

As a retiree who has lived continuously in Cambodia for 2 or more years, I get a free pass with a QR code which I scan whenever I decide to visit (usually once a month). It is renewable annually.

My photo of the excavation work to expose the old moat and causeways at the Bayon Temple.
