Mystery deepens in the Cambodian border town of Poipet, where a second Thai woman has died under suspicious circumstances in less than a week. The latest case involves 28-year-old Suthathip “Mint”, whose body was discovered hanging from a window in her room on 3 November.

Cambodian police are investigating whether her death was suicide or homicide. The room, located in Duangchan Soi 2—a Chinese residential enclave near the Thai border—was sealed off shortly after the discovery. Her family, from Chachoengsao province, travelled to the border to coordinate repatriation efforts with the Immanuel Foundation.

Five days before her death, Suthathip posted a haunting message on Facebook: “Because in the end, our hearts want to feel safe more than we want to endure.”

Her death follows that of Kanokwan “Bai Mon”, 27, who allegedly fell from the third floor of a commercial building in Poipet on 29 October.

While Cambodian autopsy reports cite blunt force trauma consistent with a fall, Thai authorities have flagged anomalies—no blood at the scene, intact limbs, and torn clothing—raising questions about the circumstances.

Speculation swirled around a missing sum of 18 million baht from the company where Kanokwan worked, but the Immanuel Foundation confirmed she was not directly involved.

The two cases have sparked concern among Thai citizens and rights groups, especially given the proximity of the deaths and the lack of clarity surrounding them. Both families await further forensic results from Thai authorities.

As investigations continue, the deaths of Mint and Bai Mon cast a troubling shadow over Poipet, a town often associated with cross-border trade and migrant labour—but now, increasingly, with unanswered questions.
