Yingluck Shinawatra Faces Possible Kickback Allegations

Thailand's political scene heats up as Yingluck Shinawatra could be accused of taking bribes from scammers during a potential censure debate against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Sources suggest the accusations will address illicit activities connected to a scam and money-laundering operation. Although Yingluck, ousted in 2014, may not have knowingly received any kickbacks, her name could resurface in political battles once Parliament resumes on December 12.

Yingluck, sister of incarcerated ex-leader Thaksin Shinawatra, might face charges despite her self-exile. This arises amidst a possible debate scrutinising previous prime ministers for allegedly profiting from fraudulent activities. The House of Representatives could witness heated discussions targeting Yingluck and others, focusing on past dealings allegedly linked to transnational scams.

Thaksin reportedly aims to prevent any censure motion against government members from evolving into an attack on his sister. His priority remains avoiding findings that could implicate Yingluck. An outcome of the debate might impact the political landscape, as the current minority coalition led by Bhumjaithai seeks to gather sufficient parliamentary support to withstand the motions.

Anutin, the focus of the censure debate, might decide to dissolve the Parliament and call an election within 60 days, as backlash against his leadership grows. Meanwhile, political observers speculate that a strategy involving Deputy Prime Minister Thammanat Prompao could help mitigate challenges. This situation comes amid allegations that Thammanat has links to individuals implicated in scams, which he strongly denies.

The ongoing turmoil underlines the tense political environment as officials grapple with allegations and party dynamics. Anutin's leadership faces further scrutiny as accusations intensify, urging him to address the simmering scandal directly. As Thailand approaches a potentially pivotal moment, actions by the Prime Minister may dictate the immediate political future.

These developments reinforce the need for transparency and accountability in Thailand's political sphere. Potential debates could shape perceptions both domestically and internationally. Stakeholders eagerly anticipate the Government's response and the potential ramifications of the accused activities on Thai politics, reported Thai Newsroom.

Key Takeaways

  • Yingluck Shinawatra may face accusations linked to past scam allegations.
  • Thaksin Shinawatra works to shield his sister from possible charges in Parliament.
  • Political implications could lead to dissolution of Parliament and elections.

I was a kid when Nixon lost to JFK.

A couple of years later he suffered an humiliating defeat in the race for governor of California.

That night at the post-election presser he lashed out saying "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore."

Less than ten years later he was sitting in the Oval Office, and the rest is history.

The Shins could possibly come back to power.

That clan is like a nest of snakes, there are so many of them.

Let her off that one (there are enough potential charges anyway) as it doesn't look like Thailand.

Hey, you cant blame her for looking all grandmothery and out of place despite wearing the late-teenager bell bottoms and leather jacket.

She missed her authentic "ditsy rich Thai daughter doing the obligatory gap year or  bachelors degree in old England" years when made to play act PM for her dad during her youth instead.

She is living the life around the world no need to return to Thailand and join her brother in the slammer !

If she had any sense she would never come back but they all seem to want to, probably to get their hands on some more of the hidden stash !   They get bored in Countries where they can't dominate the 'Tea Money' Pot.

I think you are getting mixed up between the two Shinawatra girls.

This session is going to be a pre=election fight.

Everyone is gong to try to trash each other with all the things they did wrong so tht they cn unoficially start their campaigns.

The one thing I am sure they will do is slam the PTP as hard as they can to prevent it even thinking of rising.

BJT knows it can not win a majority so it needs to leave PP alone

Let others take the shots.

PP will definitley hit the government on a few minor things except wscams and The dirty deputy.  Thatis one party they would like to see disappear

Obama sure fell for her, and he's gay. Big Mike tuned him up backstage after the event.

This photo makes women back home (even more) bitter towards Asian women.

Spot on, let's just say that angels fear to tread where (ex) Thai politicians are there looking for a comeback.

If Yingluck or Thaksin is prosecuted for--doing their job as PM--I can only hope other nations will follow. There are a lot of leaders who are unscrupulous bad actors.

For sure, they can go anywhere in the world and live high-on-the-hog, but Thailand is where they all want to be.

Don't fool yourself, the Shinawatras love Thailand - every last one of them including in-laws, outlaws, lackeys, hangers-on, the whole lot.

Since Seng Saekhu migrated here in the mid-19th century the family has prospered. First as tax farmers during the reign of Rama V, then as Thai silk entrepreneurs in Chiang Mai.

Thaksin's father was an MP with diverse business interests. As a student at Montfort, Thaksin managed one of the two cinemas the family owned in town.

Being ostracized from Thailand is their worst nightmare. Just look at how they scheme to get back in when they are exiled and living abroad.

Pre- Thaksin the Isaan folk were treated like garbage and ignored. Thaksin was the first one to see the power of those votes, acknowledge the country folk and do something for them.  That's how it was explained to me by an Isaan lady back in 2006 when the anti-Thaksin protests were going on.  The Isaan folk were aware that they were being used but it beat the hell out of being ignored.   Isaan people used to lie and say they were from Bangkok due to the stigma attached to being from the poorest region of the country.

The first part is most certainly true, the second part I'm not so sure about unless it refers to the entire population of Thailand.   Thaksin is probably the dirtiest shirt in the hamper but you wouldn't wear any of the shirts in there without a good wash.

Every single one of those politicians could be charged with and convicted of similar charges.  The politics here are old, nuanced, and certainly beyond my comprehension.  Few things are as they appear to be.
