King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida of Thailand have embarked on an official state visit to China, strengthening diplomatic ties on the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese relations. The royal couple arrived in Beijing on November 13, 2023, at 4.03pm local time, aboard a Royal Thai Airways flight. Their visit comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and will continue until November 17.

Upon arrival, Their Majesties were warmly welcomed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other officials. A traditional reception featured young children presenting bouquets to the king and queen. Ambassador Chatchai Viriyavejakul introduced them to key Chinese dignitaries, marking the beginning of an important diplomatic engagement.

The royal visit included a welcoming ceremony with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. Senior officials and members of Thailand’s diplomatic corps also participated in greeting the king and queen. Afterward, a royal motorcade transported them to the China World Hotel, their official residence for the visit.

This marks the first official visit by a Thai monarch to China, highlighting the strengthening bilateral relationship. Thai nationals in China, along with Buddhist monks, students, and business representatives, lined the route to express their goodwill. Floral garlands were presented at the hotel, symbolizing friendship and partnership between the nations.

The visit is considered a landmark in Thai-Chinese diplomacy, set to enhance royal friendship and strategic ties. Experts view this as a significant step in reinforcing alliances, pointing to potential collaborations in various sectors. The king and queen’s presence is expected to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.

Looking ahead, the visit is likely to usher in new opportunities for economic and cultural exchanges. Both nations anticipate further discussions on bilateral projects and initiatives. The conclusion of the state visit is set for November 17, with expectations of strengthened ties and new agreements, reported The Thaiger.
