November 17, 2025Nov 17 A summary of : Trump thought Gulf monarchs would rebuild Gaza. Then he told them his plan Immediate problems: Decomposing bodies underneath the rubble. It is estimated there are between between 10,000 and 14,000 corpses. Heavy rains have resulted in tents being flooded whilst raw sewage flows between the tents. Cost of clearance UN-Habitat estimates that it would take 105 lorries 20 years to take all the rubble away. But there isn’t anything like that number of trucks and there’s almost no heavy equipment. Obstruction by Israel On Friday, the UN spokeman, Stéphane Dujarric, said that 4,000 pallets of tents, blankets and kitchen sets remained stuck in Jordan, Egypt and Israel, waiting for permission to enter Gaza. He said the Israeli authorities had rejected 23 requests from nine different humanitarian aid providers to bring in these “critical” supplies. Israel bans more than 1,000 items as “dual use”. They include cement, steel bars, pipes, and welding equipment, all of which the Israeli authorities say could be used for military purposes. Unwilling donors The World Bank and the UN put reconstruction costs at $70bn. The Gulf states and others have donated around $1.14bn of the $4bn requested for urgent aid. That’s barely a quarter of what’s required just for basic humanitarian needs, let alone to start rebuilding. Who will govern Gaza? Israel rejects any role for Hamas but also opposes involvement by the Palestinian Authority. Trump's plan envisages an international stabilisation force to provide security but Hamas won’t disarm, and no one wants to send troops to fight Gaza’s armed groups on Israel’s behalf. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Indonesia were all named as possible contributors to this force. All are now noticeably reluctant Going nowhere But progress has stagnated since the truce was agreed – there’s little money, no foreign peacekeepers, and no sign of Sir Tony and the Board of Peace. The Israeli commentator Ehud Yaari wrote that Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza was going nowhere. It “currently belongs to the realm of Disneyland and has no grip on reality”.

It's a complete "<deleted>" engineered by trump and netanyahu, esp when trump thought he could build a new city there, replete with tackyness in abundance. No show Donny boy LOL.

November 17, 2025Nov 17 The gulf trillionaires are not stupid. They very well know with whom they will have to deal (on both sides of the wall) if they get trapped in any Gaza investments.

Then he told them his plan Trump thinks a lot, but in fact he better should keep his pie hole shut. He also "thought" he had reached a deal with China, and that they bowed for his negotiation skills, but news from the last few days again shows nothing of that is true. But that is for another thread.

However, to be honest, no one also expected Hamas to respect the agreement. Neither Hamas nor Netanyahu have any interest in peace.

They didn't destroy it. Israel did with the connivance of the USA, who supplied the weapons to do it with. Let them pay to rebuild it. If Trump wants the USA to help pay the cost, then HE will have to explain to the US taxpayers will have to pay part of the cost.

November 17, 2025Nov 17 Israel should be forced to build bomb shelters for the people who are bombing them. What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

The Palestinians would welcome the improvement, that's why there are so many already living in Israel quite happily,

Well, call it what you want, but the United States did offer huge financial assistance to Germany after the war. It was called the Marshall Plan. And it was in the enlightened self-interest of the USA and in the interest of other European nations that it did so. Compare that to the vindictive Treaty of Versaille the consequences of which helped lead to World War 2.

Would the USA have given aid the Germany if Hitler still ruled Germany ?

And so long as Israel refuse it's duty to occupy the territories and function as an interim government it can always make that claim.

Not really my area of expertise but I believe that the UK has only relatively recently paid back all the money they borrowed from America to fund their involvement in WW2 But the troublemakers who started the war and eventually lost it seemed to have done quite well out of it financially, could that have inspired Hamas?
