The "United Land Power to Protect Sovereignty" group has announced protests outside the American and Malaysian embassies in Bangkok to oppose perceived foreign interference in Thailand's handling of its border conflict with Cambodia. The group, led by Jatuporn Prompan, aims to demonstrate against the involvement of US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the ongoing dispute. This follows the US suspension of trade talks with Thailand, urging them to adhere to the Thailand-Cambodia peace declaration.

The recent tensions were sparked when Thailand halted a peace agreement after a landmine injured several Thai soldiers. Jatuporn emphasized the importance of national dignity and warned against succumbing to US tariff threats, urging Thai people to showcase their strength in response. He criticized parliamentary opposition for advising against aggressive tactics with the US, citing economic concerns.

Experts fear the protest could further complicate diplomatic relations. Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat stated there would be no troop withdrawal until landmines are cleared from Thai territory, and Cambodia ceases hostilities. Meanwhile, Thailand's UN representative wrote to the Security Council to reject Cambodia’s accusations and to highlight alleged Cambodian provocations.

Looking forward, how Thailand navigates this conflict will be crucial. The government aims for a peaceful resolution but maintains strict conditions, such as the withholding of prisoners of war until tensions de-escalate. International attention remains focused, with potential impacts on Thailand's trade negotiations and regional diplomacy, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand to protest foreign interference amid US trade freeze.
  • Government prioritizes resolving border tensions with Cambodia.
  • Peace talks hinge on Cambodia’s de-escalation actions.

Odd objection as Malaysia has the approval of the Thai Governments been involved with Thailand's peace negotiations with the Malay Muslim insurrection in the "South" for about a decade.

I don't recall Thais of any party protesting vigorously against Malaysia's involvement in peace negotiations with Thailand concerning the insurrection, albeit Malaysia with 60% of population being Muslim seems at best uninterested in reaching any peace deal.

Funny how there is never a protest at the Chinese or Russian embassies about anything. And its Chinese scammers who are threatening the Thai economy and banking system and Russian gangsters who flout Thai sovereignty routinely where they live, ignoring visa laws and work laws. And do remember China keeps close control over not only who gets a Chinese passport but Thailand's granting of visas to Chinese passport holders. I think it was a few years ago on this forum that there was a story about how all Thai visas for Chinese citizens had to go through the Chinese embassy for approval. China knows who is in Thailand and exactly what they are doing with scamming centers and fraud. If I were worried about sovereignty I'd want to know why China must approve who Thailand gives a visa to and why so many of those people are putting the Thai economy and banks at risk.

What a nasty sabre rattling and  ultra-nationalistic pooh stirrer!

Thai people should demonstrate against his pro-monarchy, pro-military and anti democracy involvement with the border issues!

why give these clowns any air time at all??

Eric.

I used to respect Jatuporn when he was fighting on behalf of the red shirts. But now, he's just right off his rocker, isn't he? Ultra-right-wing nationalist nut job - a complete 180. Someone buy him out?
