Alabama Bans Transgender Books from Youth Library Sections

The Alabama Public Library Service Board has voted to remove books discussing transgender topics from youth sections in all public libraries across the state. This move requires the relocation of materials related to "transgender procedures, gender ideology, or more than two biological genders" to adult sections. Board Chairman John Wahl describes the decision as empowering parents to control what their children access.

This decision follows ongoing national debates, often focusing on LGBTQ+ themes. The state board's vote comes after a heated public hearing, with strong voices opposing the measure as a form of censorship targeting transgender individuals. The change will impact over 200 libraries and take effect in 2026, aligning with existing rules against sexually explicit content in youth areas, reported CNN.

Experts and activists express concerns about the ruling. Mack Reynolds, a transgender advocate, highlights the importance of positive representation and education through books. Critics argue the rule may lead to the gradual removal of such books from libraries entirely. The new guidelines leave ambiguity regarding the potential exclusion of any book featuring a transgender character.

Key Takeaways:

  • Alabama will move transgender-themed books from youth to adult library sections by 2026.
  • The law affects over 200 libraries, aligning with rules against explicit content for minors.
  • Critics fear the move is a step towards censorship and gradual removal of such books.

Judging by the responses here on AN, it seems that we have a few transgender people in the “family” who disagree.
I believe there are only two genders, simple as that.

So, go ahead and give as many thumbs down as you can... you're welcome.

OK, thumbs down! You can believe what you wish and I won't quarrel with you beyond commenting that your opinion is uninformed.

Did the name Big Ears come from his elephant G-String with a hole in the front, and Noddy because of the way his head nodded? Now it all makes sense.

Ban them! Ban Them now!

Alabama always backwards.

They take pride in that.

I wonder someone can find the book titled "The Bell Shaped Curve" Or "Mein Kampf" in a school library.   If it not, that's censorship.

Yeah, that sort of ridiculous nonsense should be banned until kids are legally allowed to be adults and make their own decisions. Funny how you can read that sinister agenda nonsense BS at 15 but can't buy a beer until 21. Kids should be shielded from from nefarious agendas that seek to manipulate... just wrong on so many levels because kids can't make rational decisions, just act on impulse because the brain hasn't properly developed yet.

Don't you think they read all this stuff on the internet.Very few kids read books nowadays anyway.

Kids should be banned from the internet too, and from all mediums that are nefarious/detrimental to their development... and social media/the internet fit that well.

In the future, psychologists will blame and be stunned by our lack of understanding of how social media influences the brain when it is under development in the early 21st century... and allowed this disaster to happen, and I never said anything about just books.

All nefarious manipulating outlets that promote nonsense agenda-driven BS should be banned to minors... and minors should be restricted to what are now called "dumb phones", i.e. phones that can only call and text.

The swirling nonsense now that everyone is subjected too warps so many minds, kids and adults too. For example, women that think they deserve the best and think they are queens despite not contributing anything to a relationship because it's the guy's job or he is a bad guy etc... that is the sort of nonsense result we get from the brainwashing on the internet. Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Nothing to do with LGB. All about the TQ+ again.

I don't know why trans activists are surprised. They've been hitting people over the head with their Bible for 15 years. Now the other side are doing the same to them. Such is the human condition.

In other words: The God of the "Isrealites" (never claiming to be the God of the rest of mankind) declares that
everbody that does not worship him as mentally "disturbed/insane"?

If that's the case, we urgently need another God.
