A grizzly bear remains on the loose in Bella Coola, British Columbia, after attacking a school group, injuring 11 people, including two critically. The shocking incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon on a local walking trail. Authorities have issued a warning for residents to stay indoors as armed officers attempt to track the bear.

The group, from Acwsalcta School run by the indigenous Nuxalk Nation, encountered the bear while on their nature excursion. Veronica Schooner, a parent, described the terrifying attack as a male teacher bore the brunt, trying to protect the children. Her 10-year-old son escaped physical harm but had a close encounter, claiming he felt the bear's fur as it charged past him.

British Columbia Emergency Health Services reported on the varied injuries. Two people suffered critical injuries, with two others seriously hurt, while seven more received treatment at the scene. The Nuxalk Nation has urged the community to remain inside and away from highways as the search for the rogue bear continues.

In response to the attack, the school temporarily closed and organised counselling services for all those affected. Officers have been dispatched, stressing the need for immediate containment of the threat. The Nuxalk Nation expressed gratitude to the dedicated teachers and students during these tense hours, reported the BBC.

Things that happen in Canada for $1000?

A nature excursion in bear country, without someone having a big A$$ firearm for protection.  What could go wrong

Wouldn't happen in USA, as 10 of those kids would be packin' :coffee1:

Think the school need to revise their nature trip protocols.  Speeding recover to the 2 that didn't fare too well.

Well, every country has its issues. Here in LOS, we have snakes, but they only attack one person at a time, so it's manageable.
