Thailand suffers from an impossible level of smugness and arrogance, and a persistent belief that they are truly the center of the universe and the best thing in the world. They don't have a clue.

This is an excellent comment about the racial characteristics of Thai (males) in particular.  Throw in a genetic disinclination for hard work and a dearth of brain cells and there you have the root causes of Thailand's decline.

Sounding like a proper pair of farang cucks.

Oh swell. So we can expect more of the above?

But they don’t need to reinvent anything. Just be nice, don’t have a flip-flopping governments with changing visa rules and arbitrary laws on alcohol, mind your high currency, mind your prices, respect your visitors.

I'll summarise this :

WORDS WORDS WORD CASINO WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS CASINO WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS CASINIO

words words word CASINE words words CASINO

It's just more nonsense about Casinos. Thailand is not a developed nation like Singapore where Casinos will open responsibily and policed properly. They will go the way of Cambodia and decimate cities. That is why the locals were ritet to fight against it.

It's a general statement and a widely held consensus, but the vast majority of Thai men work very hard to provide a living for their families, and most Thai  men that I know are really honest hard-working folks. I don't know what the percentage of lazy derelicts are but it's likely under 20%.

Thailand needs to develop tertiary industries.

There is a point where tourism dollars tip into over tourism which in turn leads to  stagnation.

Thailand is not there yet but if it simply chases numbers it may get there very soon.

Global trends are veering towards man-made attractions, such as theme parks and integrated resorts, prompting fierce competition.

I would wholeheartedly disagree with this approach.

Any country can build man-made attractions......these theme parks are the same.....okay they may attract some.

Tourists want unique.

Unique was crowded Bangkok /Pattaya/Phuket streets, stalls, food sellers, 'illegal' bars, red light districts.....mixed in with the unique land and sea scapes..........a sense of adventure......not a copy of Disney World.

Agree. I know I want the exotic, not another theme park outfitted with casinos.

India and China have the fastest growing middle class in the world right now, also among other Asian countries.

Have you followed the news about the "fastest growing middle class (in China)" recently, say for the past three years? 😉

Yes, there are many theme parks, incl. in Asia (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, etc., etc.), so, why in the world, should people travel to Thailand for that? (If they built beach resorts in Iceland, would people head over there for a swim in the ice-cold Atlantic waters?) 😆

I think that the OP was about tourism in Thailand. Not that many Vietnamese travelling to Thailand for a(n actual) holiday (300,000 this year and decreasing). I mean, what would they be coming for, the beaches, the temples, the Asian cuisine, the exotic culture, or the 'low' prices, perhaps? 😆

Follow the line of replies.

Tourists have to come from somewhere, and right now western tourists seems to meet visa or temporary stay problems, Thai baht and prices goes up as well air tickets, especially high season. That means cheap tourists which have been part of the statistics stops travelling.

How about Thailand trying for the tourists looking for dangerous pursuits.  Never mind abseiling down buildings or parachuting off the Eiffel Tower. Try walking across a pedestrian crossing in Bangkok, or walking on a Bangkok street to see if any BTS train wheels fall on you,  or go for a boat trip to see if it catches fire or sinks.

Proposals include live entertainment and potentially gaming facilities, though the latter would need careful consideration. Emphasising tourism as a commercial venture, he advocates forming an independent board to assess new products and infrastructure improvements.

So the plan is to continue with the same old same-same, but with a new bunch of overseers collecting government funding.

What next?

Proclaim Thailand to be the hub of hubs?

Yes, they would.  Just requires cool heads in marketing.

The goal is to restore and elevate Thailand’s appeal, boosting investment and tourism leadership.

Build legit resorts, inclusive resorts with real entertainment, shows, bars, cafe's outdoor seating, open-air public pedestrian areas.

Somewhere where real families can enjoy safety.

Just grant a 6 month tourist visa to all visitors instead of changing their confusing rules every few months.

I think that the OP is about Kevin Clayton wanting the company he works for (Galaxy Entertainment Group) to be allowed to build a casino resort.

Keep changing visa rules people will look elsewhere.crazy

They have a lot to learn from Spain, and so far just need to clean up their visa rules, and be stricter about alchohol and drugs, so they can start getting the quality tourists they always have been talking about 😉

Tourists who spends money and who also invests in apartments. How many million appartment was unsold around in Thailand again? 1,64 million units are unsold where most of them in Bangkok 750 000.

Once known for property money laundering, ganging up with Russian mafia in the meth trade, spending nothing except on Chinese venues why not look elsewhere for some quality tourists, oh I forgot they can read, they know what is happening to Thailand. They just don't want to come here now except for the hippie dak smoking mob

The thought of 45 or 60 million tourists annually is truly frightening. Would be time to leave Thailand for greener pastures.

Clayton stresses an ambitious vision, urging the Thai government to target 45 million visitors by 2030 and 60 million by 2035.

This is so retarded it's impossible to overstate. If they bring in 60 million tourists and plan to get the extra 25 million from China and India then Thailand is RUINED. We're talking total meltdown and systemic failure making all tourists destinations inhibitable. The traditional tourist democrats will leave also and be replaced by even more Indians and Chinese.

Clayton is either a retard or a BRICS plant trying to destroy the country. Get rid of that guy ASAP.

Is the sex trade a big part of this? Eliminate that, and what happens to tourism? I think it plummets because of the reasons everyone lists above.

I agree the Sex trade is one big part.

There’s another that struck me recently…the weather. Coming here as a family with two young kids is no joke when it rains everyday and you are cooped up in a hotel room and you can’t spend time on the beach. Is a disaster of a holiday. Changing weather patterns appear to have extended the wet season and make for a very short high season of dry and sunny weather.

i have no scientific evidence for this, but I have been rained on every day for the last month, so I’ll believe my own eyes on this one.

The issue here is greed.

Hotels have got greedy, the ones we used to go to have doubled their rates since Covid.

I'm not going to pay 11,000 baht a night for a hotel at Kata Noi.

We’ve been to Vietnam over a dozen times since Covid, your money goes twice as far and you avoid the unpleasant tourists that Thailand now seems to attract.

Quit changing the rules.  The instability is a large part of the problem.

Give me my bank account back, it makes my time in Thailand simpler

Quit threatening to reduce the visa exemption to 30 days, it makes planning a trip more difficult

Quit threatening to outlaw herb. (okay, this one doesn't matter to me, but it does to many people)

Quit saying that you are going to fine people thousands of baht for having a drink in the middle of the afternoon

Quit saying that you are going to fine people thousands of baht for not wearing a helmet on the back of a motorcycle taxi

Let people do a border run, that's how I stayed 3.5 months last year

Get rid of the TDAC, it's a solution looking for a problem

Make it easier to get an retirement visa, like it was a year ago

Quit increasing the amount of hassles involved in visiting Thailand

One way would be stop flip flopping with the rules. Yes you can drink no you can not drink, you can smoke weed no you can't. And now the visa rules changed again. A little bit more notice would have been good for travellers who had booked flights thinking they could have an extended stay moving around Asia for a few months

Give them booze, booze and more booze, serve it up 24 hours a day, make it free to under 12's.

Who wouldn't dream of spending their holiday in a resort in Thailand together with Malaysian, Indian, Arab, Chinese, and Russian tourists, of which many have no civilized manners?
