US Judge Quits After Elvis Wig Antics in Court

A Missouri courtroom has been rocked by the resignation of Judge Matthew EP Thornhill, who stepped down following disciplinary action for wearing an Elvis Presley wig during court proceedings. The longest-serving circuit judge in St Charles County was known for his light-hearted approach, frequently referencing Elvis and even playing the singer's music during trials.

Judge Thornhill, an avowed fan of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, attempted to bring levity to the courtroom. However, his antics drew criticism from the commission responsible for overseeing judicial conduct. They argued that his behaviour compromised the integrity of legal proceedings, and they called for his suspension, according to the BBC.

In a candid letter to the Missouri Supreme Court dated 12 November, Thornhill expressed regret, acknowledging the need for courtroom solemnity over levity. The disciplinary report revealed his routine use of the Elvis persona, particularly around Halloween, which included wearing a signature wig and sunglasses during official duties.

Key Takeaways:

  • Judge Thornhill resigned after facing discipline for wearing an Elvis wig in court.
  • The commission cited his actions as affecting courtroom integrity.
  • Thornhill accepted the findings and has retired after a 20-year tenure.

Matthew E.P. Thornhill was elected to his judicial positions in Missouri, not appointed.:coffee1:

Yeah, shame so many things automatically degenerate into Trump or Dem bashing.  Kinda boring.

Missouri. Enough said.

So he only did it once on Halloween...:coffee1:

He was obviously "looking for trouble".....

Having been thrown out of court, I guess that the Judge will find a new place to dwell? Down at the end of Lonely Street? Heartbreak Hotel?

All we know is that he has left the building.
