The Customs Department has stepped up efforts to combat illegal imports in line with the government’s Quick Big Win policy. The move follows a directive from Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Akiniti Nitithanprapras, calling for coordinated action between Customs and law enforcement agencies.

On 26 November, Customs Department Director-General Phanthong Loykulnan assigned Deputy Director-General Suntareeya Tawichaprasit to coordinate with Pol Maj-Gen Phutipong Musikul, Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). A meeting was held to discuss integrated operations between the CIB and Customs, attended by Pol Maj-Gen Tatsapoom Jaruprat, Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECS), Pol Maj-Gen Kongkrit Lertsitthikul, Commander of the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), CIB officers, and senior Customs officials.

The initiative aims to enhance Customs’ core role as a “Social Protector” by preventing illegal goods from entering Thailand. Authorities stressed that coordinated enforcement is central to producing tangible results under the government’s Quick Big Win strategy. Experts say such inter-agency collaboration can improve detection rates and streamline legal proceedings against offenders.

Matichon reported that customs and law enforcement agencies will continue to implement joint operations targeting smuggling and other illegal trade activities. Further meetings and field operations are planned to ensure compliance with the policy, with results expected to be monitored and publicly reported.

Key Takeaways

• Customs and CIB are collaborating to enforce the Quick Big Win policy against illegal imports.

• Integrated operations aim to strengthen Thailand’s social protection role against illicit goods.

• Joint enforcement actions are expected to be monitored for effectiveness and reported publicly.
