Authorities at Thap Lan National Park have issued a safety warning after tourists reported seeing a tiger on Khao Salad Dai in Ban Phutthachat, Thai Samakkhi sub-district, Wang Nam Khiao district, Nakhon Ratchasima, on 6 December 2025. The park advised both visitors and local residents in Phutthachat to exercise caution, especially during night-time hours. Tourists planning to visit Pha Rak Salad Dai have been urged to inform park officers in advance to ensure their safety.

Officials confirmed that patrols have been stepped up in the area following the sighting. They said the measures aim to closely monitor the tiger’s behaviour and reduce risks to the public. The park also reminded visitors not to approach the area near dusk or dawn, when visibility is low and wildlife activity may increase.

The report followed concerns raised by tourists who encountered the tiger earlier in the day. The sighting occurred along a popular route leading to viewpoints within the park, prompting authorities to move swiftly to implement additional safety protocols. Local agencies have coordinated to strengthen monitoring and ensure that communication with residents remains clear.

Park officials have reassured the public that the situation is being closely managed. They urged visitors not to panic, noting that the tiger had not shown signs of aggression but should still be treated with caution. Contact numbers—0-3721-0340 and 09-2550-0172—have been provided for updates or enquiries.

Daily News reported that further assessments will continue as officers track the tiger’s movements in the coming days. Authorities say they will maintain heightened patrols until they are confident that risks have diminished. Tourists are encouraged to follow official guidance and stay informed as monitoring efforts progress.

Every poacher in Thailand will be heading that way as we type.

This highlights one of the flaws in Thailand's hopeless wildlife management.

The tiger is almost certainly displaced by an "alpha male" and has to find new territory – the male tiger's home range is usually 50 to 180 square kilometres. So the males especially need space.

As long ago as the 1980s the Thai authorities were advised that for a sustainable population of tigers to exist the habitat was too fragmented – the acreage is in fact there, but it is fragmented, and this needs to be addressed by a series of connecting wildlife corridors – ideally this should extend throughout Laos, Burma and even as far as India.

Can we hope that they step on a land mine?
