The Royal Thai Navy has confirmed it shelled a casino building at Ban Tha Sen on the Thai-Cambodian border in Trat Province after detecting Cambodian tank deployments in the area. The strike followed an earlier drone operation that destroyed anti-drone antenna systems installed on the building’s roof. According to the Navy, all Thai Marines remain safe and no casualties have been reported.

Rear Adm. Parat Rattanachaipan, the Navy spokesperson, said on 9 December 2025 that operations continued throughout the day near Ban Nong Ri in Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trat, around a cluster of three houses. He reported that heavy weapons had been used since early morning as part of ongoing efforts to control the border zone. Initial assessments indicate that over 80% of Cambodian defensive positions, including the main structure and a bunker believed to store weapons and munitions, have been destroyed.

The spokesperson stated that the situation has entered a phase of strategic manoeuvres aimed at seizing the area. However, Cambodian forces reportedly responded with heavy artillery, preventing Thai border defence units in Chanthaburi and Trat from securing full control. The Navy noted that the casino at Ban Tha Sen, built by Cambodia in what Thailand considers encroached territory, had been fitted with antennas used to jam drone signals.

Thai unmanned aircraft detected the antennas earlier in the day, prompting a targeted drone strike to remove them. The Navy emphasised that the method was chosen specifically to minimise damage to the casino building itself, as civilians or individuals unconnected to the conflict might have been inside. The building is also reportedly used as a hideout by online scam operators, reinforcing Thai concerns about collateral risks.

Later in the afternoon, military units observed Cambodian artillery positioned around the casino, leading to retaliatory fire from the Thai side. Damage to the casino structure is now being evaluated, though no further information has been released on the extent of destruction. The spokesperson reiterated that the use of heavy weaponry was unavoidable due to the evolving security situation along the border.

Khoasod reported that The Royal Thai Navy continues to monitor the area and engage in operations intended to restore control over Thai territory. Officials have not indicated when the situation might stabilise, given Cambodia’s continued artillery response. Further updates are expected as assessments of the damaged sites progress and as military units adapt to changing conditions on the ground.

Issue a warning to civilians first, give them 24 hours, then flatten every casino and scam centre in Cambodia.

Ill'vote for this suggestion.

The Thai part-owners of the casino will not be happy.
