Anyone know if as a Star Alliance Gold card holder, you are upgraded automatically to premium economy on Thai Airways???

Anything I have read would lead me to believe that even if you were a Royal Orchid Plus gold card holder you shouldn't count on any sort of upgrade.

No automatic upgrade I and I work as flightcrew for Star Alliance Carrier. Upgrades only happen these days generally if flight oversold in economy which bumps you up to premium if it exists on that particular aircraft or from premium to business and or business to first. Don't count on it. Even top members are having a hard time getting upgraded these days.

Bugger me - works on UAL. Oh well guess I will have to fork over the 200quid for premium.

Always ask, always be polite and make yourself known to the cabin crew, get first offer on free rows of four seats etc.

When I have been upped a class is was on full fights on occassions where I took the trouble of pushing for freebie upgrades at the Thai ticket office at the departure airport, ask the check staff - but they are seldom able to do anything for you.

Save your airmiles and do the first class freebie during your birthday months promotion.

Just used my last upgrade (R.O.C i Gold) with TG for my next flight but had to buy an Q ticket which was about £100 more than the W-V...( Lon -Bk-Cm R/T) but at least I get 100% milage on this one,

Are you in the US? Unless they changed it very recently, TG don't have premium economy on London flights.
