A man accused of driving into over 100 people during Liverpool's victory parade claimed he did so out of fear, but prosecutors argue he acted in rage. Paul Doyle, who has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm, used his car as a "weapon" during the incident, as stated in Liverpool Crown Court.

The shocking event took place on 26 May, during celebratory chaos in the city. As they described their injuries and trauma, some victims expressed fear for their lives. A victim, Sheree Aldridge, recounted her terrifying experience when her baby's pram flew into the air. Numerous victim impact statements described long-lasting psychological injuries from the attack.

The case further highlights Doyle's admission to having "ruined" his family's life following his arrest. The court heard Doyle, a former Royal Marine, changed his plea mid-trial last month, admitting serious offences, including 17 counts of attempted grievous bodily harm. Prosecutors dismissed Doyle's claims of panicking, portraying him as a man who experienced severe temper tantrums.

Experts highlighted Doyle’s intention to harm, citing his aggressive driving through the crowd. Prosecutor Paul Greaney (KC) emphasised Doyle's disregard for others' safety, noting he shouted at the crowd to move while driving recklessly. CCTV footage revealed Doyle's vehicle hitting a baby's pram and multiple bystanders, underscoring the gravity of his actions.

Looking ahead, the court proceedings continue as Doyle faces sentencing. Daniel Barr, hailed as a hero, bravely intervened by stopping Doyle’s car, preventing further injuries. The hearing resumes on Tuesday with significant interest in the legal consequences Doyle will face, reported the BBC.

From video and audio in his car it sounds like he had a total meltdown the way he was shouting.

The story keeps mentioning a baby's pram but no mention of a baby in it. Not that it matters, but knowing he hit a pram with a baby is more important than hitting an empty pram.

he did so out of fear

Maybe he feared he couldn't kill or injure enough people with his alleged attack.
