Paul Doyle, 54, has admitted guilt in a shocking act of violence at the Liverpool FC victory parade. Doyle pleaded guilty to 31 charges, including dangerous driving and multiple counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, after driving his car into a crowd, injuring over 130 people on 26 May.

The Crown Prosecution Service condemned the attack as "calculated violence." On the second day of his trial at Liverpool Crown Court, Doyle changed his plea after initially denying the charges. The incident saw Doyle drive his Ford Galaxy into crowds gathered on Water Street, leaving supporters shocked and injured.

Thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC's success when the attack occurred after 18:00. The parade, which had begun earlier in the day, was nearing its end when chaos erupted. Doyle was apprehended at the scene and charged within days, with charges involving victims ranging from six months to 77 years old.

Doyle, a former Royal Marine, was visibly emotional during proceedings, often tearing up in court and during prior hearings. His family supported him during his appearances. The trial had seen a jury sworn in, but Doyle's plea change pre-empted the opening of the prosecution's case.

Recorder of Liverpool Andrew Menary KC communicated that Doyle faces a "lengthy" custodial sentence. The court scheduled a two-day sentencing hearing for 15 and 16 December to determine his fate.

Key Takeaways:

  • Paul Doyle confessed to all charges concerning the Liverpool parade attack.
  • Over 130 parade-goers were injured in the calculated assault last May.
  • Doyle faces a sentencing hearing in December for his grave actions.

Now I definitely read something about this road being closed with those bollards blocking the street off during the parade, but for reasons unknown someone in control of them opened the road up so a vehicle could gain entry and then negligently did not return the road to closed status by raising the 'diversity bollards' which are centrally controlled and electronically operated.

It then went on to say this dude was driving around and turned into the road where his car was viciously attacked - and he escaped by putting his foot down - is that account ow what happened wrong ?

Yes I really hope we get to hear exactly what happened, the motive etc.

Seems to all be a bit of a mystery.

Why do they always "tear up" when they realize they are facing life in prison?

In the UK, it doesn't mean life as in he will die in prison, unlike the USA.

In Doyle's hearing (Dec. 15–16, 2025), Judge Menary's "long custodial sentence" of "some length" signals severity without whole-life permanence—expect 15–25 years minimum,

No one died.  He won't get a life.

What a strange case ?

Road rage or mental issues?

I suspect a combination of both.

Sounds like he panicked when he found himself surrounded by a mob angered by the fact he'd mistakenly driven through the middle of their parade due to the police accidentally removing the Diversity Bollards.

Ex Marine. Maybe PTSD issues.

Dashcam footage from Doyle’s vehicle shows that as he approached Dale Street and Water Street, he became increasingly agitated by the crowds. Rather than wait for them to pass, he deliberately drove at them, forcing his way through. Driving a vehicle into a crowd is an act of calculated violence. This was not a momentary lapse by Paul Doyle — it was a choice he made that day and it turned celebration into mayhem."

Seems the "angry mob" formed as a result of his deliberate act of violence.

Its coming out. He was a loon. Semi-Walt, who turned 1 year and 10 months hanging around in Scotland to 4 years in the Marines. Afterwards did a degree in maths, got a job at McDonalds, then IT roles, including Littlewoods Data Centre. IT roles in the NHS and a Wealth management firm followed.

In 2020, aged 48, he got himsef retrained as an "Ethical Hacker", leaving his job, and now calling himself a "Volunteer Ethical Hacker" for "Honest Hackers".  Acting Head of Cyber at what seems to be a fictional company called "Hyper Scale Data Centre". Did a few selling from home jobs, selling sports gear and a range of Snap Back Caps. His Twitter account was mostly about the time he spent playing Fortnite and, predictably, Crypto. On twitter, he followed Nigel Farage, Andrew Tate, Elon Musk. He pushed a cryptocurrency called SafeMoon, who's owners are undergoing investigation for fraud. Its apparently a Ponzi scheme.

I suspect his personal finances are a complete mess, maxed out mortgage, living off credit cards, but kidding himself that he's managing wealth. The idea that a 50 something decides to reinvent himself with youth culture clothing suggests midlife crisis. It wasn't a moment of momentary panic, but calculated violence. A terrorist.  He was a church goer apparently. Does that make him a Christia terrorist? No, but it was part of the persona he constructed himself, which was a fantasy idea of religion (eg like how Tommy Robinson has apparently found  "God", though I suspect thats all part of a grift).

The combination of a made up military career, online gaming, the "ethical hacking", the crypto crap and likely a struggling fashion business signals a fantasist that bled into the real world.

He was literally the powerfully built director that crops up on forums.

I would hope they throw the book at him, but I suspect the judge is going to be constrained by sentencing guidelines

He wasn't in the marines long enough. Never left the UK. 8 months basic, then the rest of the time guarding bases in Scotland.  16 months total service.  And all of that was 34 years ago. In 1991, the UK military was doing FA.

Yep. Rage issues, but that is no defence.

  • 3 weeks later...

21 years inside is the sentence. Previous convictions for assault, including biting a man's ear off. During his short stint in the Marines, known for a short fuse.

Driving like a lunatic earlier in the day. I suspect this was the way he normally drove.
