Not so.

  • Classic. I heard it thus:   A man walks into a pharmacy and asks for some deodorant. The assistant enquires "Ball or aerosol?" and the man replies "Neither, I want it for under my arms".

Deodorant only, unless a special occasion, then just a tiny dab of cologne.

Few things in this world are more obnoxious than a man wearing too much cologne, or a woman wearing too much perfume. Yikes.

It's all about projection and longevity and you have to be discriminating or at least aware. The reality is that few people can smell your scent unless you're in an enclosed space or they deliberately sniff you. These days the kids are into intense scents or beast mode as they like to call it. That's alright if you're fishing for compliments or trying to attract.

Personally I'd rather wear a frag for myself. If someone can smell it and they like it all well and good.

What does Chatgpt have to say about this?

Why men wear fragrance:

  • Smell control. Soap fades fast. Fragrance lasts.

  • Social signal. You smell clean, put-together, intentional.

  • Confidence. Scent affects mood. That’s psychology, not fluff.

  • Attraction. Smell matters in how people read you.

  • Personal taste. Same reason you choose clothes or a haircut.

Is it feminine?

  • No. That idea is cultural baggage.

  • Men have worn fragrance for thousands of years. Warriors, kings, workers.

  • Many “masculine” scents today use woods, smoke, leather, spices.

  • Calling fragrance feminine usually means “I’m uncomfortable with grooming.”

The real line isn’t gender. It’s appropriateness.

  • Light application: fine.

  • Overspray: bad, regardless of gender.

  • Match the scent to the setting. Office ≠ nightclub.

Bottom line:

  • Men fragrance is normal.

  • It signals self-awareness, not softness.

  • If someone mocks it, that’s their insecurity talking, not a rule you missed.

That's a fairly good summary.

I would just say that the idea that there is an "office" scent or a "nightclub" scent or a going down to Aldi scent (sic) is a modern marketing notion. Anything is an office scent if it's light and doesn't project too much.

Personal taste is the most important factor. Wearing a scent that you disilke because others like it or it gets compliments is like hanging a painting you think is hideous because other people might like it.

Anyone who wishes to know more about Fragrances and Flavors should really check out the PINK Book...

This is not the Only Pink book.

There are others, and PINK is sort of a generic term, when fragrances are being considered.

In the distant past, I have contacted quite a few fragrance manufacturers.

Most are listed in a Pink Book.

Some day, we will not need to sprinkle scent on our skin.

Instead, we will use Genetic Engineering to dial-in any smell we like.

We will become sweet smelling GMOs.

For all them Alpha 60 year old , male Thailand expats.

Hai  karate.

Don't leave home with out it.

In my early days here, I used to joke about a fragrance called "Bookers"... beer and hookers.

There is no "Sad" emoji, it was dispensed with a long time ago.

Perfume and after shave is not good for your skin.

I used to wear Armani Geo, we called it pussy moisturizer back in the day. It's toxic chemicals though, like the covid shots and are bad for us.

My daily fragrance is the fragrance emanating from a wallet full of a 1,000 baht notes. the best fragrance in the world,

Ok, thumb down then. Pretty sad to me.

Used beer.

Tom Ford Oud -the extract version, good for 6 hours. $400 a bottle.

I have 46 bottles or cologne, I fly a lot and it really is cheaper in duty free.

I put on three different kinds during the average day.

When people come over, we have a little sniff party.

And it looks great displayed. Really, you don't need any art in the room if you have that as the focal point.

Versace homme , Dior homme and Dior Eau sauvage ( not the Johnny Depp one ).

Abercrombie & Fitch, Fierce Cologne. Bur, last time I looked, closest store was Singapore so ... sparingly used!

My Thai wife bought it for me because she likes the smell.

Hugo Boss is underrated. It's a $300-level bottle for $200.

Not so interesting fact: I have a bigger fragrance collection than @Prubangboy...and haven't worn even a single one of them. I tend to collect things, alcohol for an instance, but not actually drink nor utilise them. Fragrances were all gifts. Usually from girlfriends and Duty Free.

They are also things of beauty.

Few products are so carefully designed to catch the eye.

Cannot say that I am particularly enamoured by things. I value my relationships above things.

So I'll bow out of this thread.
