The implementation of Thailand's "Khon La Khrueng Plus" Phase 2 co-payment scheme is delayed until a regular government is established, as announced by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Due to legal restrictions, the caretaker government cannot utilize the central budget following the dissolution of parliament. Charnvirakul emphasized adherence to regulations during this transition period.

Earlier, the scheme was approved by a cabinet resolution and included in the policy statement. However, the dissolution of parliament has prompted legal challenges for the caretaker government regarding budget allocations and new project launches. Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat stated that guidance from the Election Commission (EC) would be sought to determine the possibility of proceeding with the scheme at this time.

The caretaker government is unable to introduce new projects, yet the pre-approved status of "Khon La Khrueng Plus" may offer a pathway for continuation. If the EC deems that the project cannot proceed, it will be postponed until a new government is in place. The Finance Ministry noted that Phase 1 of the scheme is active, with total spending reaching 75.52 billion baht, reflecting strong public engagement.

Experts highlight the importance of ensuring compliance with election-related rules during this period. The co-payment scheme remains a crucial public initiative, designed to support economic activity through shared costs between the government and public in sectors like retail and food delivery.

Moving forward, the administration is poised to formalize its consultation with the EC and awaits a conclusive decision. The outcome will determine if the scheme can proceed or if it must wait for the next governmental formation. Stakeholders remain attentive to the development of this high-impact economic policy, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • The "Khon La Khrueng Plus" Phase 2 scheme is delayed until a regular government forms.
  • Legal compliance necessitates consultation with the Election Commission for further action.
  • Phase 1 continues robustly, demonstrating public and economic engagement.
