Visa Run To Hong Kong/macau/taiwan?

Featured Replies

Hey All,

I just had a few questions. I'm an American who come on a 60 toursit visa, there after extended it with 30-day extenshion at the immigration office. Now I plan to doing a visa run and wanted hear some opinions on going to Hong Kong/Macau/ Taiwan, to get another 60 day toursit visa. I read somewhere on this forum that Hong Kong should be avoided at all costs, but that was last year, does this still hold true? Anyone have any experiences with the Thai conculsate in those places?

Thanks,

CP

I have used HK a number of occasions, polite and efficient. Macau has no Thai Consulate and I am not sure about Taiwan, but I would guess they, due to politics also have no Thai Consulate. If I am correct then HK is your only choice. However, I know there is a Thai consulate in Guangzhou and they also have a good reputation.

For the last year I have been getting visa`s from the Thai consulate in Guangzhou I have never had any problem the most recent visa was last month. The only thing they require is an onward ticket.

Thanks for the information...That's weird, I would have thought Taiwan would have a Thai consulate general, since there is Taiwan embassy in BKK. But now my other question is don't you need a visa to go to China? I know you don't need one for HK, but I thought one is needed for the mainland.

And would the HK people be willing to give a visa if I don't have an onward ticket?

Thanks again!

In both Hong Kong and Guangzhou you will need an onward ticket.Yes you need a visa for China.

Hong Kong was no problem. Took five minutes, and pick up was five minutes. Just make sure you have the basics, as always.....

Thanks again!

Are there any cheap flights from BKK to Hong Kong or Taiwan?

I didn't find any flights ...

I had my last visa run in HK (October '07). I had absolutely no problem at all. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes tops. They didn't require a return ticket, either. HK has their own budget airline, the name of which escapes me, which just opened a direct flight to BKK. I flew to Macau through AirAsia, though, and crossed to HK on the Turbo Jet. Good fun, beautiful view of Victoria Harbor. :o

any probs in hk if passport has many visas and red warning stamps?

By the way ... does anybody have information about cheap flights to Hong Kong?

Today I found a promotion at Orient Thai website ... 999 baht ...

Flights via Singapore are quite "expensive" ...

Im also looking into a visa run to Hong Kong...but wanting to know if a 2x entry Tourist Visa is a possibility?

Do not believe I have seen any report that it is for a traveler - if you are a resident of Hong Kong it might be but don't believe there have been any reports on that.

Have "done" Taipei several times.

They are quite mean and nasty.

If you do not have a residency permit for Taiwan, they will try to turn you away on submission, you can persist and they will give you a single.

On the third visit they stamped "no more", but still got a single. Never chanced going back, and as they process "foreigners" at a seperate window they will probably remember you.

They also required me to show an original ticket, luckily the air company was on the same block.

Small office with slow service, not much English spoken.

Is it possible to enter Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa and then just keep extending it for the duration of you stay whether it be a month or a year?

Can someone maybe tell me why UK is willing to give a 1 year type O visa for someone looking for work or wanting an extended stay but no other countries will - they only offer type O visa if you are retired or already have work??

No. A tourist 60 day entry visa can only be extended one time for up to 30 days.
