A drug-impaired lorry driver lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into three homes in Phetchabun province, killing a 78-year-old woman and leaving another resident seriously injured. The crash also destroyed two pickup trucks and caused extensive damage in a residential community, prompting police to file multiple serious charges against the driver. The immediate impact left families displaced and a neighbourhood badly damaged.

The incident occurred on December 27 on the Phetchabun–Tha Duea road in Moo 7, Ban Khok subdistrict, Mueang Phetchabun district. Police from Ban Khok station were alerted and attended the scene with rescue teams, finding a two-lane road with a slight curve in a built-up area. A soil truck, registration from Phetchabun, had crashed into houses beside the road.

The lorry came to rest inside a two-storey house at No. 91/1, which was completely destroyed. A black Isuzu pickup, registration from Phetchabun, was wrecked, while a Toyota pickup, registration also from Phetchabun, was damaged along its side. Two neighbouring houses, No. 91 and No. 89/5, also suffered heavy damage to their fronts.

Inside the first house, police found the body of Mrs Lor Jitphet, aged 78, who was killed instantly when the lorry struck the building. Mrs Nulek Boonmee, aged 68, sustained a broken leg and was rushed by Rom Pho Phetchabun Foundation volunteers to Phetchabun Hospital in a serious condition. Household belongings were scattered throughout the wreckage.

The driver, Mr Prateep Iamsa-ard, aged 45, from Ban Khok subdistrict, was detained at the scene. He told officers he had been transporting soil to fill land in Pak Pu village, Sadiang subdistrict, and had made several trips that day before blacking out at the wheel. He said the lorry first hit the black pickup before crashing into the houses and other vehicle.

Police breathalysed Mr Prateep and found an alcohol level of zero. However, a urine test detected methamphetamine, and he admitted taking yaba. Officers charged him with driving under the influence of narcotics, dangerous driving causing injury and death and causing property damage, before transferring him to Ban Khok police station for further legal proceedings.

Thaitabloid reported that police will continue legal action while investigators assess the full extent of structural damage and compensation claims. The case adds to ongoing concerns over drug use among heavy vehicle drivers and road safety in residential areas.
