December 30, 2025Dec 30 Authorities in Phnom Penh have banned fireworks during New Year celebrations, citing public safety and social order concerns, while Cambodia’s Defence Ministry has imposed a sweeping ban on drones amid rising border tensions. A notice issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration on 28 December confirmed that fireworks will not be permitted anywhere in the capital during the countdown. Officials warned that violations could lead to legal action under existing laws, stressing the risks of fire hazards and disorder. The Defence Ministry’s restrictions follow reports from Thailand’s Second Army Region that more than 250 drones crossed into Thai territory from Cambodia in recent days. Heavy drone activity was observed in several areas along the border, despite a ceasefire agreement signed last Saturday. In response, Defence Minister Gen. Tea Seiha ordered a ban on all unmanned aerial vehicles in Phnom Penh and surrounding provinces, particularly those bordering Thailand, including Koh Kong, Battambang and Preah Vihear. Military and local authorities have been instructed to intensify monitoring and, if necessary, deploy anti-drone systems to maintain security. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hun Manet, son of former leader Hun Sen, led nationwide prayers for Khmer soldiers who died in border conflicts and called for peace. He urged Cambodians to pursue an end to war through negotiation, diplomacy and humanitarian principles, emphasising that stability is essential for long-term development. The twin bans highlight the government’s efforts to tighten control during the holiday period while navigating heightened tensions along the Thai-Cambodian frontier. With fireworks silenced and drones grounded, officials say the measures are designed to safeguard both public order in the capital and fragile ceasefire commitments on the border. -2025-12-30 ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français ThaiVisa, it's also in French
