Ukraine Condemns Nations Over 'Fabricated' Putin Compound Attack

Ukraine has sharply criticized the United Arab Emirates, India, and Pakistan for condemning what Kyiv insists was a non-existent Ukrainian drone strike on Vladimir Putin’s compound in Russia’s Novgorod region. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he was “disappointed and concerned” by statements expressing alarm over an attack Kyiv says never occurred — while those same governments stayed silent after a real Russian missile strike hit Ukraine’s own government building on 7 September 2025.

Russia claimed 91 Ukrainian drones targeted Putin’s official residence, prompting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to declare the strike foiled with no casualties. Kyiv immediately rejected the accusation, with President Volodymyr Zelensky calling it a “complete fabrication” and Sybiha accusing Moscow of a long record of inventing incidents for propaganda effect.

Despite that denial, leaders in Pakistan, India, and the UAE condemned the reported attack and urged restraint, saying such an operation would threaten stability during sensitive peace efforts. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the alleged strike would undermine ongoing diplomacy, while India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all parties to avoid actions that weaken negotiations. The UAE echoed similar concerns.

The controversy has unfolded just as Zelensky promotes progress in peace talks with the Trump administration, tied to his proposed 20-point peace plan. President Donald Trump said he was “very angry” about the reported strike — despite Kyiv’s denial — describing it as reckless during a “delicate” negotiation phase and saying Putin personally informed him of the alleged attack.

Kyiv maintains Russia staged or fabricated the incident to shift global perception and pressure Ukraine during talks, while Moscow insists it foiled a genuine assassination attempt.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Ukraine says Russia fabricated a drone strike on Putin’s residence — and condemns countries that treated it as real.

  2. Pakistan, India, and the UAE publicly criticized the reported attack despite Kyiv’s denial.

  3. The dispute comes during sensitive peace negotiations involving the Trump administration.

Begs the question as to why UAE, India & Pakistan were so quick to condemn.

Won't make any difference. There will be retaliatory strikes and the media in the West will whine and cry all about how unfair the "authoritarian Russians" are because they're bombing Ukraine using the excuse that "Ukraine sent drones after Putin." For those who haven't noticed, Russia is bombing Ukraine and are not offering any excuses for doing so other than completing the goals of the special military operation. However, if I was the President of Ukraine, I might want to finally get on a plane and live the rest of my life on my ranch in Wyoming.....or hang around and find out.
