Etiquette for Americans when meeting non-Americans abroad ...

Featured Replies

When meeting Americans I'm suspicious at first, given that so many of them (still!) support a war criminal and pedo protector. I'd rather not spend time with fascists.
Usually though, they have the good sense to throw in a comment to clarify their position and kind of "apologize" for the mess they created for the world.

I see you meeting someone for the first time and shouting, "I hate Trump," while shaking hands.

Are you in Pattaya?

I’m going to have a guess that you are the DaF Murican, who regularly tells anyone it isn’t talking to, that if it wasn’t for HIM, (even though, at an educated guess, was born 30 years after ww2 ended)

that we would all be speaking German. It also gives the Germans and Russians the same line.

I blame the bar girls, because when it uses it as a chat up line, they just giggle

Had a pair behind me in the pub last night.

Typical metrosexual lib types. Vocal fry. Say the word "Like" 5 times in every sentence. Banging on about Trump being "Like, soooo fascist maaannnnn".

Shouldn't be allowed to travel outside Cali IMO.

Rejection can be tough, but there’s no need to be so bitter about it Jonny.

I guess it's painful and difficult for you to hear truth when it's spoken, even by goofballs who are using weird lingo. Trump is the closest to a wannabe fascist that America has ever seen, whether you deny it or not, it would be like someone 400 years ago denying gravity despite all the apples falling on their heads.

I have heard this argument since the 1980s. It is human nature, It was so good back....

I agree with you about home prices but with home ownership at 65%, there is little a politicians can do to correct the mess if they want to get reelected. It is much worse in Canada where homes average 13x of income vs 7 in America. Most wealth for the normal person in both countries is tied to their homes that are over 50% overvalued by traditional values the last 100 years. Many people here in Thailand were poor back home other than their home they sold. THey are living the dream now just because they owned a home that kept doubling in price. Problem is what goes up usually comes down and this is getting insane. Non homeowners are screwed!

THe young will eventually inherit the overpriced homes but this model is doomed to fail. For one, I think we are reaching the point where home values can't go any higher. When that happens, which is the best scenario (peaks vs drops ), people savings will stagnate and that will be the beginning of the end of this crazy easy money cycle we have been in for decades. This has been a wild ride for decades now but it isn't based on real value or productivity.

The only meaningful statistic would be what percentage of American homeowners don't have a mortgage and that's only 40%. Anyone who wants a home these days with a mortgage in the US, is really feeling the pinch.

It’s not me who hangs out in the same places as these people who so obviously attracted your attention.

As they should. The easy money will last forever idea was simply stupid. Everybody chasing the buck and now after using their homes insanely overpriced values as a piggy bank, they can't no longer. Maybe prices will plummet and the younger crowd will be able to buy a home at a reasonable multiple of their income.

There is a lot of true in this statement.

When people ask me where I am from, I tell them proudly.

If they ask about Trump, I tell them how I feel.

I never mention that I am from the United States even when I wear my red hat with "Make America Great Again." Most foreigners that I meet will automatically assume that I am from the U.S. as I will be wearing a huge grin on my face. I don't talk down to the foreigners from socialist countries like the UK or France that are suffering from their "Green" policies and now have no oil. I just laugh to myself and walk on.

They hate us .

We Are Hated as a Nation. There’s One Man to Blame.

When talking with a new friend from Ireland, I was dismayed to discover just how far America’s reputation has fallen. After this week’s news, it all makes sense.

I wonder how a pair of Gay American Jews holding hands would go over down on Lower Suk. Maybe down on Soi Arab? Wearing crossed Rainbow Israeli and American flags? Maybe up in Chiang Mai? That would be cool.

Most non-Americans have no idea of how the American voting system works. Hell, most Americans have no idea of how the American voting system works! No idea of how the Electoral College works, or even what it's supposed to do for an election.

The common reply is 'the people voted in trump,' but that really wasn't the case at all, was it. He was elected by the Electoral College, which did not follow the popular vote. trump lost the popular vote by 2.5 million votes, but the Electoral College did NOT vote that way.

They were supposed to follow the popular vote. They did not.

The Electoral College was the perfect way to deal with elections when the population of the US was less than 4 million people, all located along the East Coast of America. It doesn't work so well with 342 million people scattered in different densities all across the USA.

seems you dont completely understand the voting process either

When the Democrats had the "Blue Wall", they loved the electoral college. When the blue wall started crumbling, the electoral college became the end of democracy as we know it.

After Trump won the first time, the Democrats wanted to nationalize elections. Now the Democrats says nationalized elections are the end of democracy as we know it,

When the Democrats constituency was working class Americans, the Democrats hated illegal immigration. When the Democrats constituency shifted to the rich, the hard left and the subsidized poor, controlling the border and deporting illegal aliens is the end of democracy as we know it.

Got it. So you fear to face the truth that your ideological allies would murder the two guys. Instead, you snidely imply I am gay, since that is an insult in your circle.

To bad there arent any PROUD gay folks here to combat your hate.

  1. Consider Trump to be obscene and not a subject for polite conversation.

  2. Suggest he should be tried for homicide, or failing this stripped of his nationality and deported.

I was lucky enough to be able to visit 7 of the named countries by @Purdey .

Following others (not all of them) I would love to visit:

Comoros, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Guam, Maldives, Northern Mariana Islands(!!!), Virgin Islands.

You call them all together "<deleted>hole countries." Are you just a kid who isn't able to find out how these places look like and how nice they are? Nah - I guess you're just trolling.

Maybe - when you once grow up - you might find a way getting out of your s*** hole...
