If we withdraw, the EU is done because a few countries are smart and will cut their own deals.

LOL What you describe, Yagoda, is just one of your recurring wet dreams. The dollar devaluation, on the other end, is solid reality.

Get over it...

I see you meeting someone for the first time and shouting, "I hate Trump," while shaking hands.

Really? Please explain what narcissistic tendencies I have exhibited.

I am always interested in the thought processes of amateur psychologists.

You are not self-aware. Perhaps you should reflect on yourself from time to time.

Narcissistic tendencies involve a spectrum of traits—often summarized as vanity, selfishness, and a sense of superiority—that, when mild, are common, but when severe, indicate Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Key characteristics include a fragile self-esteem, excessive need for admiration, entitlement, lack of empathy, and exploitative behavior to maintain a grandiose self-image.

All nationalities must deal with this issue. Stereotypes are very common and we all fall victim to them sooner or later. Try to only hang out with intelligent people. It's the best antidote to racism.

I'm not buying equivalency across all nationalities. Sorry.

Certain nations are much niore widespread triggering in a negative way.

True its not only Americans and Russians though.

Anyone can copy and paste information from an AI bot.

Is it narcissistic to be unable to suffer fools gladly?

Troll someone else, there's a good chap.

Well if my friends and I were sitting down and you walked over and said "Hi, Im Jingthing and my pronouns are...", most of us would say hi and leave regardless of your nationality

The truth resonated deeply, and you must take the time to reflect on your shortcomings.

You are confusing me with someone who gives credence to your daft opinions.

J6 attack

Lol

That "attack" has been found to be a FBI/CIA, Democratic party conspiracy. Schiff may alo g with others may go to jail for it. Notice how quiet he and Pelosi have been since the election landslide? Try and keep up

At least we have established you're not American, yet ceaselessly blabber on about it's politics which you understand nothing about.

I hear you.

Feelings about political matters can be complex.

However, you made my point.

For better or worse, you see a random American and the first thing that comes to your mind is Trump.

But of course the majority of Americans do NOT support Trump.

So do you welcome Americans who do not support Trump to give you that information or not? Even with a subtle coded comment.

I think it's fair for non-Americans to ASSUME that most any random American is either pro Trump or MIGHT likely be pro Trump unless there is something about them that cancels that. Such as being black for example.

My self as an older "gentleman" who is older, has white skin, and presents cisgender, I have come to the conclusion that superficially I am (fairly) assumed to likely be pro Trump. Which is an assumption that is quite nauseating.

Americans are not the only nationality dealing with these kinds of issues. Russians abroad come to mind. I think it's fair to assume most any random Russian is either pro Z Putin fascist or not opposing him or his genocidal war UNLESS they tell me differently or present some kind of code which cancels that assumption. For example younger Russian men presenting in some kind of non-conformist way.

Whenever idiots from other countries prattle on about Trump and American politics (which even Canadians know nothing about). I ask them...

How much control do you have over the politics in your country? Oh, none? Me too...

Same as Americans unfortunately. Our politics is unfortunately largely controlled by AIPAC and ADL and large corporate donors.

It is with irony I look at sick, feeble Europe driving a stake in it's own heart all the while denouncing Trump. You people are idiots.

I'm no Trump fan, but we forget that Harris was the alternative and the corruption that has been uncovered thus far has been earth shaking

Yep, normal hetero Americans, not ones with hair in a colour that does not exist in nature, who spend their days screaming about being victims and shouting about Trump on the Internet.

They're asking --

What the flippin' heck is going on over there?!?

On 1/7/2026 at 7:11 AM, Jingthing said:

in the era of Trump 2.0.

Trump is the most famous person in the world.

Trump is the most powerful person in the world.

Trump love him or hate him has made massive changes to America's role in the world.

Everyone you meet is going to know about Trump and have an opinion about him.

In my view, that puts Americans of different kinds in a rather awkward social position while abroad.

So the intention of this topic is to discuss suggested etiquette when Americans meet a new person abroad (in this case mostly Thailand).

It's meant for both Americans and non-Americans and also pro and anti-Trump people.

Based on polling (refer to Pew Research) the vast majority of people globally are anti-Trump (except for a very few nations) and now Trump with historically low approval ratings doesn't enjoy majority support among Americans either. So you might be able to make some general assumptions about how most people are going to think, but you won't know in advance. Also as we're in Thailand, Thais generally do not usually appreciate foreigners discussing Thai politics with them and they are generally not looking well upon foreigners trashing their own governments to them.

So in a sense the etiquette guidelines may be very different based on the nationality that an American encounters.

Examples of these differences:

American meets a Thai (discussed above)

American meets a Brit

American meets a Hollander

American meets a Russian

American meets an Iranian

etc.

So of course this is very situational.

But even so, it's something that I'm sure most Americans abroad are thinking about and dealing with these days. I'm especially curious about what non-Americans think Americans should say about it to them upon meeting, if anything at all.

During the presidency of Bush Jr I used to tell people that I was Canadian and I came out of Regina. I think I'm going to start doing that again because the vast majority of people react when I say I'm American, by asking me why on earth did you vote for this guy the second time around when you realized how much of a fool and a failure and a jerk he was during his first term?

I respond by saying I did not vote for him the first time and I certainly did not vote for him the second time. Often times I will introduce myself by saying hello my name is Mike, and I despise my president.

I also have a couple of different versions of this t-shirt and I wear it as often as possible, and people walk up to me and congratulate me on the shirt and the fact that I am not a devotee of the Goombah.

I do agree that the corruption we've seen in his first year has been earth-shaking and absolutely unprecedented.

In the wake of Trump's Iran folly which now brings us to a place where Americans are hated nearly as much as Israelis, I'm doing a bump.

I'm finding I am actively avoiding situations around Europeans where the subject of nationality is likely to come up.

There was an incident the other day where a European neighbor who never talked politics with me before starting loudly ranting shouting actually about Trump's war of choice.

IF nationality does come up, I think it would be an ugly American kind of thing NOT to comment on where we stand. If you happen to be pro Trump, though, I can't even imagine.

I am wondering how Thais will react to us as Americans IF the economic fallout from Trump's war of choice starts hitting Thailand very hard. I'm pretty sure they won't be blaming Iran.

Im sure you will regale us with some made up story in the future

When in Thailand, and when I have visited my other residence in Europe, most folks remain friendly and enjoy a good laugh about Trump. He is the laughing stock of the entire world. When one laughs with non-Americans, it builds a bond. (I won't step foot in my native US again until Trump is worm food.)

I've met just one non-American who thinks Trump is something special, and he is a drunkard French pervert, so no surprise. I haven't seen him since the war began, so he might have changed his tune. Everybody else asks, "How could Americans be so stupid...twice?"

It's odd where the pressure hits Thailand. It's no surprise it hits the gas pumps, nor the mix of folks traveling to Thailand, as higher ticket prices and the need to avoid the war zone is keeping out many Europeans and North Americans. Australia, NZ, and most of East Asia is merely hit with higher travel costs but the routes are clear. This is bringing an abrupt end to the high season.

Where it is absolutely noticeable, of all places, is at Bumrungrad Hospital. I went to get a Health Cert for my Work Permit, and the staff kept remarking about how business has fallen. Those who know Bumrungrad know the clientele is largely Middle Eastern.

All that being said, as fuel prices remain high, and that hits economies already under stress from Trump's tariffs, there is likely to be lots of resentment building up, as the person solely responsible for the world's declining economic fortunes is Donald J Trump. Rick Wilson said it right: Everything Trump touches dies.

Americans abroad best not wear MAGA caps, not be obese, not be loud, and simply try to blend in. There are a myriad of subtle signs someone is American, so also best to avoid those (one example is cutting food, then putting down the knife and switching the fork to the right hand.) And avoid slapping Maple Leafs on your luggage, as that is unfair to our Canadian friends. And please! Make sure you have no Kid Rock or Ted Nugent or even Country & Western music on your playlist, not that any of that is worth a bucket of spit anyway.

I am Canadian and I came out of Regina.

Sometimes when meeting someone for the first time it is just easier to avoid letting on that I'm American, as the questions and the astonishment are hard to avoid. How did this guy get elected for a second time, what were you guys thinking, didn't you know who he was, how come we knew who he was but you didn't?
