A man was killed in Phitsanulok's Mueang district when a wall collapsed as he lay in a hammock. The incident took place yesterday, January 8, and is suspected to be due to structural damage. Emergency responders and police from Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station arrived swiftly at the scene.

The victim, 43-year-old Chainarong, was found under the rubble of a partially wooden, partially concrete house. Chainarong had disabilities, including a prosthetic right leg, and was pronounced dead on-site. His father, Weera, stated that Chainarong was a fisherman who tied the hammock between a concrete window frame and a tree to rest.

Weera suggested that flooding over the years had caused structural damage to the house, which could have led to the collapse. The wall that fell was reportedly not reinforced with steel, and the weight of Chainarong in the hammock might have stressed the structure. An autopsy is being conducted at Naresuan University Hospital to confirm the cause of death.

Experts indicate that similar incidents have occurred previously due to poor construction or maintenance. In October, a contractor in Pattaya suffered severe injuries from a wall collapse during renovations, highlighting ongoing safety concerns. This recent tragedy underscores the need for better structural integrity inspections, particularly in flood-prone areas.

Authorities are expected to investigate further to prevent similar accidents. The incident has sparked discussions about building safety standards, especially in regions frequently affected by flooding. Officials may consider implementing stricter guidelines for construction and maintenance to ensure public safety, reported The Thaiger.
