Europe Slams The Door On Migrants While Britain Loses Control

Sweden Slashes Asylum Numbers As Europe Tightens Borders

A major European migration crackdown is delivering dramatic results — and exposing just how far behind the UK has fallen.

Sweden has recorded a 30% collapse in asylum applications in just one year, after a centre-right government backed by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats tore up years of soft-touch border policy. Official figures show applications plunged between 2024 and 2025, marking one of the sharpest declines anywhere in Europe.

The shift follows Sweden’s 2022 election, when voters backed a tougher stance after a decade marked by soaring violent crime, gang shootings and murders linked to organised criminal networks — all against the backdrop of mass immigration.

Migration minister Johan Forssell said the drop was no accident. The government has tightened citizenship rules, ramped up deportations and rewritten the incentives that once made Sweden a magnet for asylum claims.

“In 2025, the number of asylum seekers continued to decline,” Forssell said. “It’s a sharp decrease — a 30% drop in just one year.”

From 2026, Sweden will go even further, offering up to 350,000 kronor (£28,000) to migrants who voluntarily return to their home countries — a blunt attempt to reverse years of unchecked inflows.

The numbers tell the story. Sweden issued 79,684 residence permits in 2025, with just 6% linked to asylum, down from 18% in 2018. More than 8,300 people left Sweden voluntarily last year alone.

Germany is now following the same playbook. Under CDU Chancellor Friedrich Merz, illegal border crossings have fallen to their lowest level in over a decade, excluding the pandemic year. First-time asylum claims are on track for their lowest annual total since 2013, after Merz campaigned on restoring border control.

Across Europe, governments are tightening the screws — while Britain continues to talk.

Key Takeaways

  1. Hard Policies, Hard Results: Sweden cut asylum claims by 30% in a single year through tougher rules and removals.

  2. Cash To Go Home: Migrants will soon be offered up to £28,000 to leave voluntarily.

  3. UK Left Exposed: Sweden and Germany are acting — while Britain remains stuck with record crossings and empty promises.

Gotta love the way they make it sound like it's just a coincidence...
