A 55-year-old man from Kamphaeng Phet province was left injured after being attacked by a wild boar near his home, surviving only after his pet dogs intervened, according to local officials. The victim sustained more than 20 severe bite and goring wounds across his body and was rushed to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The incident has prompted warnings to residents living near forested areas to remain vigilant, particularly at night.

The attack occurred on 9 January at a house in Ban Sroi Suwan, Moo 12, Nabokham subdistrict, Mueang district, Kamphaeng Phet. The area lies close to the Khao Sanam Phrieng wildlife conservation forest, where wild boar are known to inhabit. Village headman Chalo Na Dam of Moo 14, Nabokham subdistrict, said he was alerted after hearing cries for help from the injured resident.

The victim, identified as Thanom Thachiang, 55, told authorities that he had been preparing to leave home for sugarcane-cutting work when he heard dogs barking and fighting behind his house. When he went outside to check, a large black wild boar suddenly charged at him, knocking him to the ground. The animal then repeatedly gored and bit him with its tusks, leaving him barely conscious.

Mr Thanom said he believed the boar fled only because his dogs rushed in and attacked it, forcing it to retreat. After regaining some awareness, he managed to call out to his wife for help and later struggled back into the house to wait for assistance. He was found covered in blood, with particularly severe injuries to his right arm, which had a large open wound.

Mr Chalo said local emergency responders from the Nabokham Subdistrict Administrative Organisation provided first aid before transferring Mr Thanom to Kamphaeng Phet Hospital. Doctors later confirmed that he had undergone surgery and described his survival as “miraculous” given the extent of his injuries. Mr Thanom stated that his body was covered in wounds and that it was difficult to count how many injuries he had sustained.

Local authorities noted that while wild boar are common in nearby forest areas, there had been no previous reports of them attacking residents in this community. Officials believe the boar may have come down from the hills in search of food and water and became aggressive after encountering village dogs and acting defensively.

Daily News reported that village leaders are now coordinating with relevant agencies to monitor wildlife movement and prevent further incidents. Residents have been advised to take extra precautions, especially during the evening and night, as officials continue efforts to track the wild boar and reduce the risk of further attacks.
