In a July 2 court filing, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche defended the withholding of 2.5 million Jeffrey Epstein files, arguing that further release would harm victims and the government.

The filing, in response to an order from U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, justifies the limited release of documents, which defies the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Blanche has previously said the DOJ withheld documents for reasons not explicitly allowed under the Act, such as shielding internal department deliberations tied to Epstein.

The DOJ's past release of the personal information of scores of victims calls Blanche's stated concern for victims into question.

The problem is that, while many files were redacted, no one knows how many were shredded and burnt. Without video and audio files, now probably destroyed, nothing can be proven.
