A Myanmar woman, Nan Thu Thu Kwaw Oo, was arrested in Nonthaburi on January 14 for allegedly running an unlicensed hairdressing school in Bang Bua Thong. This contravenes Thai labor laws, which reserve such practices for citizens. The arrest ensued after immigration officers were shown footage of her teaching hairstyling to fellow Myanmar nationals at a Bang Rak Phatthana property.

The arrest came following a joint operation by immigration officials, the provincial employment office, and the Bang Bua Thong district administration. When officers raided the property at 1:30 PM, they discovered Nan instructing four Myanmar women on hair-cutting and straightening techniques. Another woman received hair treatment during the raid.

Thai labor law classifies both hairdressing and instructing as protected occupations, prohibiting foreign nationals from engaging in these roles. Nan claimed unemployment and insisted she was merely providing free lessons to the Myanmar community, denying allegations of operating a salon or formal training center.

Despite Nan's assertions, investigations revealed she had been working as a hairdresser for three to four months, earning approximately 8,000 baht monthly. Officials found no misconduct evidence among the women present, leading to their release without charges, yet Nan was taken in for questioning at the Nonthaburi Immigration Office before being transferred to Bang Bua Thong Police Station for further legal action, reported The Thaiger.
