Thai and Malaysian army commanders conducted a joint inspection of a border operations base in Yala province on 15 January 2026, reinforcing bilateral military cooperation and cross-border security. The visit highlighted ongoing coordination to prevent illegal activities and protect sovereignty along the Thai–Malaysian border, while boosting morale among frontline personnel. Officials from both sides said the engagement underlined the close and long-standing relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

The inspection took place at the Thai–Malaysian Joint Operations Base in Ban Dida, Bannang Sata district, Yala province. Units from the 1st Infantry Battalion Task Force and Yala Task Force welcomed General Datuk Ashan bin Haji Mohammad Othman, Commander of the Malaysian Army, during his visit to observe operations and provide encouragement to troops stationed along the border. The Thai delegation was led by Major General Apinan Jamjaeng, Commander of the Thap Sathri Force and head of Yala Task Force, representing the Fourth Army Region Commander and serving as chairman of the Regional Border Committee on the Thai side.

The Ban Dida joint base functions as a key hub for close cooperation between Thai and Malaysian forces. Personnel from both countries jointly monitor, inspect and prevent illegal cross-border activities, including smuggling and other security threats. The base also plays a role in safeguarding territorial integrity and maintaining safety for communities on both sides of the border.

During the visit, senior commanders met troops and delivered guidance emphasising careful and disciplined conduct. They stressed the importance of vigilance, avoiding actions that could exacerbate local conditions and working with neighbouring countries based on mutual understanding and respect. The guidance aimed to ensure security operations remain effective while minimising risks to personnel and civilians.

The delegation also travelled to inspect Joint Checkpoint Marker 36/100 in Saba Yoi district, Songkhla province. The stop was intended to further strengthen operational coordination and reaffirm the close ties between the Thai and Malaysian armies. Officials described the cooperation as reflecting the “brotherly” relationship that has been maintained between the two countries for many years.

Matichon reported that military representatives said the activities marked a significant step in reinforcing joint efforts to maintain peace and order along the border. They added that continued coordination would help reassure local residents that security agencies on both sides remain committed to working together closely. The focus, they said, would remain on sustainable peace, safety and stability across the Thai–Malaysian border area.
