The Royal Thai Armed Forces held a ceremony on Sunday to honor past generations and the 42 soldiers who died in the Thai-Cambodian border conflict. General Ukrit Boontanoon, chief of defense forces, presided over the event with participation from the armed forces, the Royal Thai Police, veterans' organizations, and the families of the fallen soldiers. The event recognized the bravery of those who lost their lives ensuring national security.

The ceremony took place following recent clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border, resulting in the death of 42 Thai troops. These soldiers were commemorated at the National Memorial where their names were inscribed. Soil collected from the battlefield was presented as a symbol of their courage and sacrifice in protecting the nation.

Memorial tokens, featuring a rifle, helmet, and boots, were given to the soldiers' families. Each token bore the inscription, "Heroes of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, Defenders of the Kingdom of Thailand." General Ukrit expressed gratitude to the families, emphasizing that these tokens are symbols of honor and bravery. Many family members were visibly moved during the presentation.

Royal Thai Armed Forces' Day is observed annually on January 18, commemorating King Naresuan the Great's victory in 1592. On this day, soldiers across Thailand pledge their allegiance before the Thong Chai Chalermphol, or Flags of Victory. This ceremony is part of the broader activities to recognize and celebrate military contributions throughout the country's history, reported Bangkok Post.
