10,000 baht to an agent to do ur passport
( USD passport is $130- 4,400 baht) and took over 6 weeks when i did it in 2023
3,000 to get stamps moved to new passport when that is FREE in Phuket
they saw you coming

law is u must carry passport, BUT 99.9% of the time will accept a digital copy

and even if they do request it, you have 24 hours to produce it

I have tried showing my thai license to check into hotel
it has Never been accepted and they always ask for passport

Thats over the past 40 years

i guess some of u are lucky

Hotels - I get my wife to check (us) in.

  • Quicker

  • Better room rate (often)

  • My passport not required (I stamd well away while she checks in)

I only carry my passport when travelling, otherwise my Thai driver licences provide enough proof of ID.

The only time I carry my original passport is if I'm leaving or entering the country or doing banking which they seem to always require it for. Otherwise it remains locked in my safe at home. I have

Why would you need a TM30?

So, if carrying a passport at all times is "law" you will be able to provide a reference to the Civil and Commercial Code.

You won't because it doesn't exist.

Correct about producing it within 24 hours......... and, yes, there will be a case from the dim and distant past where a foreigner was held at a police station until someone went and retrieved his passport.

I paid another 3k baht to get the visas transferred to the new passport.

That should be free. It was whenever I did it.

I keep copies of my passport, including the visa and extension pages, on my phone. Unfortunately, most places, like banks, that require you to show your passport won't accept a photo of it.

I have to say that I wouldn't want it any other way. If banks accepted just a photo of my passport instead of asking for the real document, the risk that someone conducts unauthorized business in my name would be much higher - I can safeguard my original passport, but I can't really control who has pictures or photocopies of it.

I totally agree with you.

It is far too easy to copy someone's passport to a phone. Any hotel you stay at makes a copy for example!

Do you mean they declined to transfer the stamps, or did not pursue the Bht 500?

Have never been stopped and asked for my passport or a copy since my first trip in 2003.Been there 76 times until now. That said when my exgf had rented a apartment in Bangkok someone knocked the door after short time. The manager and a IO stood there and asked for my passport because they though i migth was on overstay. I gave my passport to the IO and they left. After 30 minutes the IO came back and said everything is ok.

You keep track of how many times you've been to Thailand in your life? 76 times. Wow. I don't even keep track of how many different women I've been with.

I wish it was that difficult for me.

In fairness, as you can be with many women each time you come to Thailand and as they don't stamp your passport, that could be a lot harder to keep track of! 😉

Never ever have shown passport for hotels or domestic flights. Thai license always has been sufficient.

You have been lucky, hotels are hit and miss. There was a time some years ago when nearly all bowed to the immigration requirement. My wife always checks in and during the purge I would often get called to the desk for pp, otherwise nothing said or maybe pink card.

Had a problem with a receptionist one time that said my visa had expired. Turned out she was new and had never seen an extension stamp.

Most photo shops will copy your Identification page and make a laminated ID Card size for you to carry - got them for the whole family, used it once and the Cop just smiled and nodded his head - said “Smart, Easy” Took a picture and walked on. It was on an immigration safety check in Jom Tien. Have a picture on your phone of the Entrance Visa page they will ask for it. Peace

Don't know! Never done one except at home years ago.

I think the hotel is meant to do one?

Oh yes I forgot to say, as the agent was dealing with it the new British passport application between Bangkok and the UK which meant I did not have to go to Bangkok twice, I paid the extra 3k baht for them to go the immigration office and transfer the stamps as it is only a once in ten year event.

It was less than half a days pocket money.

You register your current address with the TM30, if you go to stay in a hotel they create a new TM30, when you leave and go back home in Thailand you have to make a new one from the date you arrived back otherwise your address will be unknown to them.

I went from home in Phuket to a hotel in Krabi just a few months ago, I showed my Thai driving licence but they needed my passport to check in as they had to do a TM30.

Maybe small hotels don't bother doing one ?

It was less than half a days pocket money well spent as the agent did all the leg work.👍

I had already done my one year visa extension in person at the immigration office for just the 1900 stamp fee and was feeling lazy.

I would guess many small hotels do not in-fact bother doing a TM30.

They don't technically need your passport to do a TM30. If your Thai DL has your passport number on it, and they ask your for your nationality, they can still do the TM30 with just a copy of your DL. But asking for your passport is the easiest way for them to ensure they have all the information they need. Any it's just policy at some hotels anyways.

High resolution scans of everything.

Stored on Google Drive.

Stored on two computers.

But, I hope I never need the backups.

Box ticking in most cases, I would think.

It is simple to hand over a passport to them while checking in, I always have the passport in the car with me when venturing far as there are someone point where cars are stopped and checked.

When local I leave the passport at home and use the driving licence, beer and looking after passports do not mix. 😀

Better to purchase them by the hour than give them half of everything you own when you split. Better to learn from other's mistakes than make the same mistake yourself.

It is better to find one who has her own money, job, income, and assets, why go for the dregs in the first place?

True hiring one long term will likely end in misery, so the best advice is to stay away from those types of girls completely.

But not everyone has the option, some guys can only get the ones they have to buy.😀

I read that to mean that he paid 3000 Baht to the agent to grow the stamps moved.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I have a relatively new renewed passport and now on extensions so few pages

I keep every page in my phone. Not only that but I have a separate folder for the current stuff: Extension, 90 day

It does get a bit tedious at times but if I'm in a jam worth it.

I also carry cards with an expired Thai driver's license and a Thai professional license

I didn't read the thread but I'm sure some idiot has mentioned pink cards 555.
